•Reveals How He Became An ARSENAL Fan
Many people don’t know that the Publisher of Global Excellence Magazine Mayor Akinpelu who is currently celebrating his 60th Birthday started his Journalism career as a Sports Writer. He told City People Magazine this last week.
Many don’t know that he is a great lover of football. He told City People about his love for football. He is a great football enthusiast. How did that aspect of him evolve over time? Which football club does he support. “Yes, you are right. I love Football. My love for football started when I was in Secondary Schoo, at Adeola Odutola College, Ijebu-Ode. I was not good enough to play for the school, but like all kids, we all used to play football. And I was a bit rascally when I was in Secondary School. We had a place council then. We won’t go to school, we would go and stay there at Council and we would be playing football. We won’t go for classes we would be playing football. The place is a bush where Bad Boys used to stay. We would just stay there at Council and be playing football. Although, I could not play for the school team, I was involved with the school team. I used to travel with them then. We had a very good football team then. And we won the Principal Cup at that time.
When I started Journalism before I joined The Guardian Express which is a paper within The Guardian family I was writing Sports. I started my Journalism Career writing Sports. Then I was supporting Stationery Stores. And the club was the most supported football club in Lagos at that time. because I was Supporting Stationery Stores at that time, I know people. Within Stationery Stores. There was a man called Baba Jor who is the Team Manager of Stationery Stores. I know him. So, I used to go to their training. I used to travel with the team when they want to go and play league outside Lagos. Then Sports used to be put on Backpage. So, I used to write a lot of Backpage lead. So, my love for Sports developed because I was supporting Stationery Stores.
When the foreign teams started getting to our consciousness, I became an Arsenal fan. I like the free-flowing champagne soccer that Arsenal plays. Those who know me, know that I am a very strong fan, though in a couple years they wanted to give me hypertension. So, at the beginning of the season, I will say that oh I am not supporting Arsenal again. There was a year I told myself, or I was not sure myself that I won’t support Arsenal, I will support Man City, myself and my friend. For me year we supported Man City. We bought Man City Jersey.
