Meet The 64 IJEBU Kings Who Rule IJEBULAND

•With The Awujale, Oba SIKIRU ADETONA

The Awujale & paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona is the biggest monarch in Ijebuland. He is also the longest-reigning king in Nigeria. He is the Awujale of Ijebuland and a paramount ruler. He is also the king other kings look up to in Ijebuland. That is why he is called Orisha Ijebu, who they all worship. One thing he has going for him is that he has been on the throne longer than most of the other Ijebu Obas. Many of them are much younger, both in Age and the number of years on the throne.

But he has about 63 other Ijebu Obas who run Ijebuland with him. They are all members of the Ijebu Traditional Council. Let’s quickly tell you that there are new Kings that have joined to replace some of the Obas who have passed on. One of them is the new Olu of Odasenlu, Oba Adedotun Oduneye Odosanya. He was presented to the Awujale on 12th Nov. 2019. He is the 3rd Olu of Odosenlu. He succeeds Oba Shafi Agbolade Sule who reigned for 19 years.

There is also the Osobia of Makun, Oba Kazeem Adesina Salami. He made a colourful entrance into Makun-Omi in Ogun Waterside area of Ogun State on 8th Dec. 2019.

There is also the Bejeroku of Oke Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, Alayeluwa Oba Stephen Owolabi Adeleke Adekoya. The official presentation of the staff of office & Instrument took place on 27th August, 2020. It was done by Gov. Dapo Abiodun who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs. Hon. Afolabi Afuape. Oke Agbo Community is one of the 5 sub-Ijebu-Igbo Communities. Ijebu-Igbo comprises of Oke Sopen, Ojowo, Atikori, Oke-Agbo and Japara.

Oba Stephen Adekoya succeeded Oba Haruna Olaoye Abass whose reign was peaceful. He is a frontline politician and management consultant. Omooba Adeleke Adekoya was installed on 27th August, 2020 as new Bejeroku of Oke Agbo, Ijebu Igbo in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Stephen Owolabi Adeleke Adekoya, MBA, FCIA. The second Bejeroku of Oke-Agbo is of a good character from Ugbonia family of Okemoro Ruling House. Oba Adekoya succeeded Oba Haruna Abass the first Bajeroku whose reign was adjudged peaceful and eventful before joining his ancestors last year.

Oba Adekoya started his education from his roots at Holy Angels Catholic Primary School, Oke Agbo, he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Administration of Nigeria and American Institute of Management with a Masters Degree in Business Administration and Financial Management. He also possesses a Post-Graduate Diploma in Journalism.

As an experienced administrator, financial expert and consultant of note, he has worked in several institutions before establishing his own outfit; WAY FORWARD NIGERIA LIMITED; a building and road construction company.

Adekoya also has a vast and rewarding political experience from holding, along the line, various positions of responsibility as Special Assistant to the one time Hon. Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, Caretaker Committee, Ijebu North Local Government (2011). A social mixer and Community Leader, he is the current President of Ijebu Igbo Club.

In Ijebu LG with headquarters at Ijebu Ode is the Awujale of Ijebuland & Paramount Ruler himself. There is also the Aladeken of Oke-Ako, Oba Osunsami,  The Lipa of Molipa (VACANT),  The Lamodi of Isiwo, Oba Engr. Salisu.
