Lagos state house of assembly

Many distinguished Lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly have joined the race for House of Reps seat come 2019 whilst many are still weighing their options, consulting widely and studying  very closely the political landscape. Once they get all of the right signals urging them to join the race, they will immediately jump into the fray. . Below are the few who have already declared their intention to join the battle for House of Reps seat.

Hon. OLUSEGUN OLULADE ELENIYAN

He was one of the first to declare his intention to vie for a seat at the House of Representatives. An outstanding politician and Lawmaker who has served his constituency, Epe Constituency II for two consecutive terms (the first to achieve that) Honourable Olusegun Olulade popularly known as Eleniyan has proven to even his biggest critics that he deserves to represent his people at the Federal level. Ask any of his constituent members, and they will tell you he has more than earned  their trust, their love and their mandate. His incredible empowerment programs that have transformed the lives of hundreds of the indigenes have become the reference point for empowerment programs in the state. He has touched lives and his people remain eternally grateful to him. For them, giving him their votes and mandate to represent them at the House of Representatives is about the only way they could pay him back in return for the many things he’s done for them.

HON DAYO SAKA FAFUNMI

One of the very bright and articulate members of the Lagos State House of Assembly is Honourable Saka Fafunmi. A clean and always impeccably dressed gentleman, Honourable Fafunmi represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I and he has surely surpassed the expectations of his people. His impressive empowerment programme, laudable projects and his ability to personally touch the lives of his constituent members directly has made him the clear favourite to earn their mandate at the forthcoming 2019 elections.  Hon Fafunmi studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Ilorin from 1989 to 1997 and graduated with Second Class Upper Division. He later proceeded to the University of Lagos where he studied law from the year 2012 to 2015. Dayo Saka Fafunmi  has worked as Head of Unit, Engineering & Infrastructure, Lagos State Ministry of Works & Infrastructure. He has been a member of Lagos State House Of Assembly from June, 2007 till date.

He has also served as committee chairman/member of many committees.

The lawmaker recently revealed why his constituency has been denied Federal presence since its creation.

Fafunmi made this disclosure while declaring his intent to vie for a sit in the Federal House of Representatives in the upcoming 2019 general elections.

The lawmaker who just got certified as a Barrister, while expressing his gratitude to everyone who graced the occasion from all across the Ifako Ijaiye constituency noted that Ifako Ijaiye has been sending individuals who really do not project the constituency well  enough to attract federal attention for development since its creation.

“Ifako Ijaiye is one the constituencies of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that is why I chose to invite dignitaries from both the LGA and LCDA of Ifako Ijaiye together here to celebrate with me.

“We have never had it so good in the history of Lagos as now, to have witnessed unprecedented developments owing Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s style of administration, and for that everyone seated  here owes him the duty to ensure his return for a second term. “I probably feel he is the only Governor who would face election without opposition. “ I say it boldly as a representative of Ifako Ijaiye, there is nobody who would come out to contest against the Governor, from my constituency we are assuring the Governor that he would get our maximum support.

“The whole Ifako Ijaiye is a federal constituency but you can hardly see a project from the Federal government and it is assumed you have representative at the green chamber of the National Assembly, that is why those of us who can reason along as elites would see this as germane and not mere politicking. Citing why he got the urge to vie for the green chamber seat, the lawmaker charged all present to think about the need for quality in the representation he has to offer.

HON ROTIMI OLOWO

He is a vibrant and astute lawmaker. This grassroot politician and legislator represents Shomolu Constituency I and without a doubt has given them qualitative representation. Only a few weeks ago at the Town Hall party that held simultaneously in all the 40 constituencies on Lagos States the compassionate lawmaker gave out financial assistance to 200 petty traders. One of the reasons they are supporting Honourable Olowo in his bid to win the House of Reps seat and represent the community at the federal level is his genuine and unending compassion for the less priviledged in the constituency.

Olowo, the Chairman House Committee on Budget and Economic planning in his personal upliftment visit, toured the notable markets in Shomolu, personally handing out cash gifts to petty traders. Speaking with newsmen after the distribution of the kind gesture, Olowo disclosed what prompted the financial assistance of about a million naira. “I had observed over time that some of the market women who trade in wares that are not more than 2000,3000 naira, shoulder enormous responsibilities everyday and understand that we need to go round and support them. “Knowing that through the sale of their wares they have been able to support their families. A larger percentage of families depends on the mother, they are the ones fending for their children and in Nigeria today we have lots of challenges.  “Many men are not responsible, leaving the woman with the responsibility for the upkeep of the children, I decided to go out and support them with an envelope of five thousand naira each for those peasant traders with the believe that this will go a long way to assist them build the family of their dream. Olowo said. Speaking on the target for the assistance, Olowo noted that

“I look at their social economic realities like somebody selling roasted plantain, locust bean, oranges, pepper, popcorn, indomie, groundnut, you will appreciate that all that she is selling is less than five thousand naira, I also consider the old ones as well, I was doing that on impulse and those that are in dire needs”.

He added that he would further empower 133 widows with 10,000 naira each.

In an unannounced visit to the seven choice markets in Shomolu area namely, Oyediran market Bajulaiye, Alarape market, Alashela market Onipanu, Alade Market on market street, Olaleye Market Awofeso Street, Shomolu local government Model Market Siperu Street, and the fish market,  the lawmaker spread joy all around as the traders were made five thousand richer.

HON. OLANREWAJU OGUNYEMI

He is clearly one of the most popular legislators at the Lagos State House of Assembly. Honourable  Olanrewaju Ogunyemi represents Ojo II  Constituency and has done a remarkable job giving his people fantastic representation for two consecutive terms. The word in town is that, giving the fact that he has done incredibly well for his people, bringing the dividends  of democracy to their doorsteps and expending his personal resources in the process they have vowed to ensure they do everything within their power to get him the necessary mandate he requires to actualize his desire to represent them at the 2019  general elections.
