One good thing about music is the fact that every year you get to hear new projects from new emerging artists while most of them still remain relevant finding new ways to create music that sounds different from what we hear on a regular basis. Different artistes come out with good music and their sounds are accepted by the audience, but before they get to this point, these guys have put a whole lot of creativity, spend years grinding and improving their craft until it gets to a point where the listeners fall in love with it without having an idea how it happened. Some of these guys are not so new to the industry, the urgency to become relevant pushes them into taking steps to stardom. City People’s Entertainment Reporter, PRECIOUS POMAA brings you a list of 10 young acts that are making waves in the industry.
PERRUZZI
Obechukwu Victor Okoh born December 5, better known as PERUZZI is a Nigerian Urban Afro Vibe recording and performing artiste. He’s currently signed to Davido’s DMW Record label. He loves creating music, he was inspired when his dad got him a keyboard at a pretty young age (7). He got his first studio shot in 2007 and has since then been recording and has worked with Nigeria’s top artiste like 2Baba, Duncan Mighty and many more. He attended Lerato Primary School, Egbeda and went on to Command Secondary School, Ikeja and graduated in (2007). He gained admission shortly after to study Medicine and Surgery at Odessa State. Perruzzi is currently one of Naija’s biggest thing, performing at all lead concerts, going on tours, releasing hit songs every day.
TENIOLA
Teniola Apata, Teni Entertainer is one of Nigeria’s fastest rising musicians breaking new grounds in the music industry. Her sojourn in music began at age of two in the school band and since then, she has made several appearances, rocked many stages and wowed the crowd both locally and internationally performing for top dignitaries and at sold out concerts. Her energy has always got people talking. Teni, however, kick-started her career in 2016, she is currently signed to Dr. Dolor Entertainment. Teni is a graduate of the University of Georgia, her current single titled ‘sugar mummy’ has been receiving positive reviews and feedback since its release even though she has other hit tracks like Asakamaya, Wait, and Uyomeyo.
CHINKOEKUN
They call him Chinko Ekun but his real name is Oladipo Olamide Emmanuel, he is a singer-songwriter and Rapper and he hails from Ondo State. Chinko Ekun is one of the fast-rising acts who was formerly signed to YBNL and later left to continue his schooling and is back now to serve his fans who have missed his Rap and style of music well. He came back with a hit song which he tilted Able God and featured Zlatan and Lilkesh, this song is gaining massive airplay in and outside Nigeria. Chinko has dominated the music scene unstoppably as he now becomes one of the most sought after new acts.
ZLATAN
He is better known as Zlatan Ibile but his real name is Omoniyi Temidayo born on the 28 of December 1995 in Lagos but hails from Osun State. Zlatan is a street music sensation, rapper, and songwriter. He came to limelight after he dropped Legwork and introduced a new dance step called Zanku. He is one of the fastest rising stars who is currently doing well in his career, he has recently been going from one country to another performing all his hit singles and teaching them the Zanku dance.
VICTOR AD
Victor AD is fast-rising Nigerian artiste, He hit the limelight with his hit single titled “wetin we gain”, a signature song for every Nigerian Hip Pop Lover in 2017. Victor AD signed a landmark deal to take his career to the next level. The multi-million naira deal would see the label, ETINS record, and management, Longitude Promotions position the promising talent as the artiste to watch with this multi-album deal. Victor AD is a fast-rising Afropop sensation. Hails from Delta State Nigeria but born and had his early life in Lagos. The rising act first showed interest in music at a very tender age of six, influenced by the likes of Bob Marley, Sunny Ade, Michael Jackson and Lucky Dube, then he began composing his songs. Before his professional sojourn as a musician in 2014 with the single titled ‘Jowo’, he led a music band in Delta State Nigeria and he was crowned the ‘best singer’ during his diploma days at the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi. He recently dropped another hit banger which is gradually gaining massive airplay around the country.
T CLASSIC
Tolulope Ajayi popularly known as T-Classic was born on the 10th Of November, 1997 in Agege, Lagos State, Nigeria where he spent his early years. He hails from Ekiti State and he is the 1st born of four children by his parents. T-Classic is a singer/songwriter/entertainer who decided to pursue music as a career after his secondary education. He showed an interest in music from an early age, and with the encouragement of those around him, he started to make a few recordings. He started his music career professionally in 2015 after his secondary education, when he came across Mix Naija Entertainment CEO. After being signed to Mix Naija entertainment, he released his first official single “I Want You” which was produced by Killer tunes on May 4, 2017, along with a music video directed by Director K. He then went ahead to release “Special Girl” under the label which featured the industry’s “Genius Producer” – Killer tunes on a verse and also fast rising act, C Natty. His “Big Break” came when he released “Isabella”, a love-themed song which told a story about an unending love with a video that captured the message perfectly. The song received massive acceptance from fans all around Nigeria and gave T-Classic, a chance to show his talent to the world. He was featured on tours and several shows after the release of the song. As a follow up to his “hit-banger”, He featured the “Mayor Of Lagos” – Mayorkun on another chart-topping song – Fall In Love which further pushed him beyond his previous borders’ T-Classic has gone on to feature on many Radio and TV shows as well as perform at various concerts In and outside Lagos. He recently dropped another single titled NFY(nobody fine pass you) which has gone viral without control, this hit banger is currently topping chats and gradually becoming a national anthem.
DEMMIEVEE
Awotungase Ademola Sodiq better known as Demmievee is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer born on April 12, 1992. He is the second son born to the family of Mr and Mrs Awotungase and had his education in Model College Igbokuta Lagos and Comprehensive High School Ketu Lagos. Demmie went through struggles in life as a young rising star and was even given a nickname “Kalaputapikin” meaning strong child, by a close friend who witnessed all his rough edges and how he overcame his adversities. Demmie was previously signed to Hope Never Dies (HND) record label and has released several hit singles like Awesome God with 2Baba and Love me tender remix featuring 9ice. He was recently unveiled as a new signing by Kizz Daniel into his new imprint “FLYBOY INC”.
REMA
He is popularly known as Rema but his real name is Divine Ikubor. He hails from Benin and was born in 2001. Rema is a fast-rising, Nigeria hip-pop rapper, Afro Pop beat singer, songwriter, entertainer, and recording artist. Rema started his music career in Benin City rapping in local churches and schools at a very tender age. While in school he went on to create his own live band and not quite long he was discovered by Dprince the CEO of Jonzing world Record and was introduced to the Mavins and he signed a contract record deal with Mavin Records and Jonzing world Record in late 2018. Rema is currently the biggest thing in Nigeria, he dropped and Album with over 5 songs and they are all gaining massive airplay in and outside the country.
BARRY JHAY
Born Oluwakayode Junior Balogun from Ayeye, Ibadan is a prominent indigenous singer from the lineage of the great legendary Fuji icon, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister (of blessed memory). Barry Jhay who made his way among creative and prolific songsters in the industry made a lot of efforts to create an impression and in setting his tone among the top of its kind. Though it can be concluded he inherited the passion for quality and proverbial lyrical style but the genre he brings in to the industry is second to none AIYE a song written in pure indigenous prayer track mixed with distinctive proverbs was dropped based on the difficult and challenging situation of the country which was produced by ANTRAS, mixed & Mastered by LIQUID MIX.
AREEZY
Ariyo Awodele Ezekiel popularly known as (AREEZY) is an Afro Pop Artist who was born on Sep/27/1997 in Itire Lagos but was brought up in Surulere Lagos. He is a descendant of Oyo State. He was born in the family of three (3) and is the last born of the family. AREEZY got his Secondary School Leaving Certificate at Obele Community Senior High School, Surulere in the year 2013. He started music at a very tender age of 10 as an instrumentalist in the church as a talking drum player. His choir master later discovered that he has the qualities of a good vocalist and then persuaded him into giving singing a try. He then started singing with the choir and later became the lead singer for the choir in a very short period of time. He is presently signed to Plondon music and he has dropped two singles under the label PHILOMENA and SHIKOLOBI which are currently trending all across Africa.
