Bride Threatens To Sue Designer. Drags Mercy Aigbe Along
The controversy going on about a red dress that made news early this year. On January 1st, 2018, an aggrieved bride @Rettypety called out a Designer @rikatobyme on IG for giving out her wedding reception dress to actress Mercy Aigbe. According to the bride in her post online explained that she had concluded on price and style with the designer and paid her 50% upfront for the job. The designer however assured her that the dress would be done and ready for delivery before her wedding day.
She said “I chatted her up on 26th of December to ask for my dress and she replied saying it was ready and eventually sent a video then I paid the balance when I had seen the dress and was satisfied. She couldn’t send the dress that day because all flight coming to Benin that day were canceled. So we were now left with 29th a day to my wedding. I called her by 6:00 am that morning and she told me the delivery guy has gone to the park to send my dress that she will send the waybill details”.
Long story short, the dress didn’t get to the bride and the designer wasn’t picking her calls. She further stated that the designer later returned the call and was apologizing saying the delivery guy was nowhere to be found and eventually suggested to give the bride one of her old dresses to use for the wedding. Only for the bride to go on Instagram, immediately recognized her dress with the same fabric on Mercy Aigbe and immediately called out the designer. The bride described the designer as a wicked and heartless person who will not get away with it.
The designer, however, reacted to the accusation on Instagram apologizing to the bride that a dispatch error occurred in the delivery of the dress and the pick up of another dress belonging to the actress Mercy Aigbe. She also said that both dresses were of the same color (red), style and almost the same measurement. She said “on realizing the error on dispatch, we quickly tried to rectify the mix-up. But it was too late as the wrong dress was already its way to Edo state for the bride to be”. She said the bride was given another dress which was meant for Mercy Aigbe. The bride agreed and the dress was delivered to her.
Fans waited anxiously for Mercy Aigbe’s response the controversy which actually came later. Reacting to the red dress saga, the fashion entrepreneur explained in a statement via her Instagram page that she hired a stylist that got some dresses for the shoot, which the said red dress was part of and used for her photo shoot. She said “I am embarrassed that the designer was not professional enough in handling events leading to this moment. It is also painful that a bride is made to go through what she went through” she went ahead to state that she has never met the designer and didn’t hire her directly. Her lawyer has been instructed to look into the matter and how best to approach it from a legal point of view without festering on an open wound.
You would think that there has been enough drama already and every party involved should just take a cup of tea and rest. Well, it seems the last has not been heard on this controversial wedding dress because the bride has decided to take a legal step and her lawyers have written to the designer dragging along Mercy Aigbe demanding a compensation for the brides big day disappointment.
