SPEECH  DELIVERED BY THE SPECIAL ADVISER TO LAGOS STATE GOVERNOR ON HOUSING, MRS. TOKE BENSON- AWOYINKA AT THE  CLOSING CEREMONY OF THE TWO DAY REAL ESTATE MARKETPLACE CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITIONS HELD AT EKO HOTEL AND SUITES, VICTORIA ISLAND, LAGOS ON  WEDNESDAY 8TH  DECEMBER, 2021.

PROTOCOL

I am pleased to be at this event again with industry players and practitioners in the Real Estate Sector. The Second Real Estate Marketplace Conference and Exhibitions which started yesterday has again proven to be an eye-opener for all participants here.

The presence of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at this event yesterday shows the seriousness which this administration attaches to this sector and the commitment of the Governor to ensure that stakeholders here, get the news d assurances and support.

I am sure you will all agree with me that this conference has achieved its major objective of addressing issues around the real estate sector in Lagos State as it concerns our efforts geared towards making Lagos a 21st-century state.

From yesterday’s conference, several issues were raised and they have been addressed this I believe, will further make the real estate sector better for both investors and buyers.

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sango~Olu assured us that the incessant issue of land grabbing will soon become a thing of the past as he ordered excision on untitled land across the state to enable the State Government to carry out documented delineation on communal land and land owned by the families.

The Governor also said that a technical committee will be set up to fine-tune the framework for the excision process on untitled land, with the objective of granting Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) to landowners for transparent sales of the asset.

Let me also restate here that in the bid to make housing affordable for even the low-income earners, the governor yesterday said that a new policy of monthly tenancy on property occupancy would kick off in Lagos next year. He assured that the concept was not to punish landlords or reduce the expected revenue of the property owners.

Also yesterday, stakeholders at the panel discussion agreed that the Government’s primary business in the real estate sector must be the maintenance of rule of law and effective regulations to protect investors and consumers.

I want to assure you that is one major thing we are working on and would continue to make efforts to resolve challenges facing the sector.

The private sector here also enlightened us on the issue of financing, insurance and mortgage in the real estate sector and I urge you all to  take a cue from all the discussions so far

I, therefore, urge you investors/ investees to still make LASRERA  your First Point of contact before investing in any Property(s) in different parts of Lagos State.  The process of verification has been simplified through the Agency’s online platform such that every necessary information can be obtained by logging on to LASRERA. lagosstate.gov.ng to know the accreditation status of any Practitioner / Organisation as the case may be.

I want to assure you that Lagos State will remain a Central location and have good potential for residential and commercial investments with an existing great network for Real Estate investors/ investees which create wealth and also attract benefits to both parties.

As a Government, we will continue to create enabling environments for the Sector to thrive while also expanding other initiatives aimed at ensuring that new homes are built /constructed, delivered and people have quality, sustainable places to live.

I thank you for your attendance and wish you a safe way back to your destinations.

TOWARDS A GREATER LAGOS.
