Dear Editor,
RE: SUPPOSED CRISIS IN OSOSA
I hereby refer to your report and interview with The Gbegande of Ososa, HRH Oba Mojeed Alatishe, carried in your edition of 7th August 2019. I decided to write this rejoinder, due to the queries I kept getting from friends and acquaintances who are aware of one’s background and were perturbed by the report. This rejoinder is also necessary to give a bit of the other side so that the narrative may be more balanced for readers to consider. Your report painted a picture of the crisis in Ososa which in reality and in all honesty, was simply being sensational. It is, however, true that our Kabiyesi has joined issues with two of his Quarter chiefs in the court of Law and the case is still subsisting. I will therefore not go further on this issue.
Secondly, Alhaji (Dr] Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa (OFR] has been a very major element in all the developmental programmes that has taken place in Ososa over the past Fifty years. He has not only donated hugely personally but sometimes brought his friends from far and near, to join him in these efforts. As an example, he singlehandedly moved Ososa Comprehensive High School from its former site to the current site, after many students were killed while crossing the expressway and the school itself was repeatedly vandalized by thieves and the area around it became known as a Den of Ritualists and Armed Robbers. He built and equipped the new school alone.
He’s currently building a state of the art ICT Centre in same Ososa Comprehensive High School to assist all the students in Odogbolu Local Govt. and environs in computer appreciation and even Entrepreneurial skill for those who desire to go further. This will be at a cost close to N200M. At the same time, he’s completely renovating the old school which has become dilapidated over time due to poor maintenance and all these at his cost too.
The community water project which was done about 50 years ago, through communal means, has become obsolete and incapable of meeting the needs of this gradually expanding community. In order to resolve this need for water all over the town, he has commissioned a very reputable firm to do the preliminary survey of the town and very soon, the town will be blessed with a new water scheme that will go round the whole town.
This will cost such a humongous amount and all at his cost. The efforts of individuals and Rotary International to help with water supply in the town, will hopefully come to an end. He brought Rite Foods Ltd, the Makers of Bigi Sausages and Drinks from Lagos to Ososa to help empower our children and improve the economy of the town and environs and both objectives have been achieved to a lot of extents.
Indigenes are going back home to take advantage of the need for accommodation and services, in view of the increased population of the town. All the afore-mentioned are apart from the numerous indigent children from the town who have benefited from his scholarship scheme over the years and many of whom are contributing their own bit to the development of the community and our country.
Alhaji Adebola Adegunwa is a great Force for Progress and Development in our Town, Ogun State and by extension Nigeria. Any Town will be proud to have someone like him as a citizen and in fact, Ososa is envied by so many towns, on this basis. However as we know ‘Oloto lIu, Osika ilu ni’. The one who speaks the truth fearlessly will always be disliked by the majority, and that is why many cannot understand this gentleman. He cannot but say the truth and admittedly, he can be quite hard in his delivery some times. I hope you will find it equitable to publish this response in your magazine. Please accept the assurances of my highest regard.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo
