The executive governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, is rounding off with his cabinet for the second term in office. Though not all positions have been filled but the major appointments are already made, especially the commissioners.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Head of Service, 16 Commissioners, 14 Permanent Secretaries and Accountant-General of the State have been announced and inaugurated so far. Other appointments into the boards and other government parastatals have since followed too.
As expected, while some of those who worked with the governor in his first term were returned, a good number of new names have been introduced as well as some little changes. Like the ministry of information that has been separated from the ministry of culture and tourism.
While Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi retained his position as the Chief of Staff to the governor, the story is not the same for the SSG seat. Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun has been replaced with another female, a professor from the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kudirat Adeyemo as SSG.
The commissioners include Mr. Akinola Ojo (Ministry of Finance), Professor Tunji Babatunde (Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning), Barr. Seun Ashamu (Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources), Mr. Biodun Aikomo (Ministry of Justice/Attorney-General), Mrs. Toyin Balogun (Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion), Mr. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola (Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources), Mr. Williams Akin-Funmilayo (Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban development) and Mr. Wasiu Olatunbosun (Ministry of Culture and Tourism).
Also on the commissioner list are Prince Dotun Oyelade (Ministry of Information), Mr. Segun Olayiwola (Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters), Alhaja Faosat Joke Sanni (Ministry of Special Duties), Professor Daud Shangodoyin (Ministry of Public Works and Transport), Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye (Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development), Mr. Ademola Ojo (Ministry of Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives), Professor AbdulWaheed Soliu (Ministry of Education, Science and Technology) and Mr. Adeniyi Adebisi (Establishments and Training).
Those who have also been reappointed by the governor include Justice Eni Esan (rtd) as chairman of the board of Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA), a retired Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni and former chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Oyo State chapter, Comrade Bayo Titilola-Sodo, as Special Advisers on Security and Labour Matters, respectively. Ms Tara Adefope was also reappointed as the Director General of Oyo State Bureau of Public Procurement.
Surprisingly, some names, who many felt worked for the governor and are his close allies and should be on the priority list, were missing on the appointment list. Take instance the case of Hon. Dare Adeleke, a very close associate of the governor, who has been replaced with Mr. Salami Ibraheem Oladeji as chairman and Sole Administrator of the state-owned Pacesetters Transport Service.
Another governor’s man whose name has not yet featured in the appointment is Hon. Babatunde Oduyoye. Oduyoye, a former Minority Whip of the House of Representatives and former Publicity Secretary of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, served in Makinde’s first term as Special Adviser on Strategy and Political Matters.
Even though appointment into the post he previously served has been announced but Mogaji Akin Fagbemi is another who many believe is close to governor Makinde. Fagbemi was the man in charge of Oyo State Road Management Authority (OYTMA) as the Executive Chairman.
Among those who didn’t make the appointment list are Rtd General Kunle Togun, who has since been replaced with a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Sikiru Kayode Akande as the Chairman of the Board of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun; Mr Taiwo Adisa, who was replaced with another Nigerian Tribune man, Sulaiman Olanrewaju and Mr. John Adeleke, the former Chairman, Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue who has since been replaced with Mr. Olufemi Awakan.
