The Senate President Bukola Saraki has summoned an emergency meeting of leaders of both chambers of the national assembly.
Journalists gathered that the lawmakers would meet at 12 noon on Tuesday to deliberate on some “crucial issues”.
Bamikole Omisore, an aide of the senate president, also tweeted about the meeting, saying the lawmakers would also meet with Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“NASS leadership will tomorrow meet at noon to consider some national issues. The National Assembly leadership comprises both @NGRSenate and @HouseNGR,” he tweeted.
“It will be followed by another meeting with the leadership of @inecnigeria led by its chairman, Prof Mahmud Yakubu.”
The meeting was called in the wake of a plea from Ita Enang, senior special assistant to the president on national assembly matters, who asked the leadership of the national assembly to reconvene and treat pressing issues such as the 2019 elections.
Before Saraki and Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the house of reps, adjourned plenary till September 25, President Muhammadu Buhari had sent a supplementary budget for the 2019 election.
The president sought the approval of N242 billion for the election, of which he asked them to raise over N160 billion through virement.

The national assembly leaders had adjourned plenary following the siege laid to the residences of the nation’s number three citizen and Ike Ekweremadu, his deputy.
But they came under pressure to reconvene parliament and consider the requests of the executive.
Enang had said failure to reconvene parliament could lead to a shutdown of government.
