Nigeria Climate Change Crisis: C2Rest Solution

by City People

Many Nigerians suffer from respiratory health problems, often without knowing the cause. Without a doubt, this is a consequence of air pollution, a major component of climate change, which is damaging our environment and our health.

In other words, the consequences of not taking the phenomenon seriously live with us every day, especially in our respiration.

The C2 Rest team, a group of climate change multidisciplinary researchers, is dedicated to addressing this issue through research.

Associate Professor Davies Adeloye from Teesside University, UK and Associate Professor Obianuju Ozoh from Lagos University Teaching Hospital are the lead investigators.

Associate Professor Faatihah Niyi-Odumosu from the University of the West of England, Bristol is leading the stakeholder engagement workshop with the support of Dr Alexander IseOlorunkanimi a Family medical practitioner from Covenant University, Ota, Nigeria. The other team members include Dr Boni Maxime Ale, Lecturer at MOI University, Kenya and Associate Professor Olayemi Akinnola, Covenant University, Nigeria, Funded by the Medical Research Foundation in the United Kingdom and aimed at addressing climate change and respiratory health impacts of Nigerians, the C2REST Nigeria Study is a 3-year research project designed to run from 2024-2027.

It is in light of this, that the C2REST NIGERIAN STUDY TEAM will be having its first stakeholder engagement workshop inviting a diverse range of people across health, environmental, and public health sectors, including the public, policymakers, religious and community leaders, patients, respiratory doctors, and public servants.

These 50 stakeholders will learn about the team’s vision for Nigeria and how they plan to achieve substantial reductions in morbidity and mortality from respiratory diseases due to climate change.

They will identify common causes of climate change and map out measures that could be put in place to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The event will take place on April 23, 2024, at 8:00 am at the Shoregate Hotels in GRA Ikeja, Lagos.
