Nigerian Army arrests soldier who shot judiciary worker

The Nigerian Army, 2 Brigade, has arrested a soldier of 6 Battalion, Sergeant Usman Tella, who shot a judiciary worker, Mr Godwin Udoaka, at Asutan Street, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday.

The Commander, 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Abdu Ibrahim Hassan, disclosed this on Saturday during his visit to the hospital where Udoaka is receiving treatment, according to a statement by the brigade.

The statement issued by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Captain Shuaib Umar, stated that the commander would provide necessary support for Udoaka’s quick recovery.

“The Commander, 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Abdu Ibrahim Hassan, has assured Godwin Udoaka who was injured by a soldier following an argument on right of way on Wednesday in Uyo that the Command will provide necessary support to ensure his quick recovery.

“The soldier has since been arrested and regimental inquiry is in progress to ensure the appropriate disciplinary measure is taken in order to prevent future recurrence,” the statement noted.

The statement also indicated that Udoaka’s wife, Imaobong, responded on behalf of the family and thanked the commander for finding the time to visit her husband.

She was quoted in the statement as saying, “I want to thank you very much on behalf of my husband and my children. God will bless you, sir.”
