NINTENDO – switch online service to launch in ‘second half of September’

by Igbokwe John

Nintendo has announced that its online subscription service will be launching in the latter half of next month.

We’ve known that the paid subscription service for the Switch will be up and running next month, but Nintendo has narrowed the launch window down a tad, tweeting that the service “will launch in the second half of September,” meaning it should go live anywhere between September 17 and September 30.

Nintendo first announced its online subscription service in January last year with a launch planned for the summer, but by the time June rolled around the date was pushed back 2018

Membership will be split into one, three, and 12-month tiers, priced at (USD) $3.99, $7.99, and $19.99 respectively.

In its tweet today, Nintendo reiterated that the online subscription will provide “access to online play & Save Data Cloud backup in compatible games and a growing library of NES titles with added online play.”

Nintendo’s managing executive officer, Shinya Takahashi, has said that the service is just “one component” of a plan to “diversify” how games are played, adding that it would be worth the wait
