The palace of the Owa Ale of Ikare Akoko was full to the brim as crowds graced the palace to witness the installation of their new king Oba Adeleke Adefemi Adegbite-Adedoyin as the new Owa-Ale of Ikare Akoko. The installation exercise was done last Saturday in line with over 700 yr-old Ikare customs and tradition on the approval of the Ondo state Government.
The traditional rites and crowning of the new monarch were performed by Kingmakers and traditional chiefs of the community which include the Olona of Ikare, High Chief Rafiu Okunade; the Olokoja of Okoja, High Chief Idowu Ogunye; the Oniku of Iku, High Chief Mukaila Bello; the Olowu of Okorun, High Chief Aderemi Olowu among others.
According to newsmen the installation which was held at the Owa-Ale’s Palace saw Oba Adeleke Adegbite-Adedoyin took turn to go into seclusion to change into different historical crowns brought from Ile-Ife by the founder of Ikare, Owa-Ale Agbaode about year 1384.
While addressing his subjects at the palace, the new Owa-Ale appreciated traditional rulers under the Ondo state Council of Obas for their support for the Owa-Ale dynasty during the demise of his father and former king Oba Kolapo. He however acknowledged that the Ikare people would continue to be in the forefront of ensuring development and peaceful coexistence in the state.
Oba Adegbite-Adedoyin succeded his father, Oba Kolapo Adegbite-Adedoyin who joined his ancestors in September, 2020 to become the 18th Owale of Ikare Akoko in Ondo state, Nigeria.
The coronation ceremony of the monarch will hold at a later date for social celebration.
