Lagos State House of Assembly has re-elected Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa (Agege 1) as Speaker during its plenary session held today, Monday at the Assembly Complex, Alausa. Ikeja.
In his acceptance speech, Speaker Obasa expressed gratitude to former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat and Hon. Members, as well as the staff of the Assembly for their unwavering support and cooperation, particularly during the recent challenges that tested the legislative arm of government. He reaffirmed his commitment to providing purposeful leadership that prioritizes the interests of Lagosians.
The House also elected Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as the Deputy Speaker, marking another milestone in her meritorious legislative career. In addition, Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji (OON) re-emerged as Majority Leader, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu as Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Mojeed Fatai as Chief Whip, and Hon. Setonji David as Deputy Chief Whip.
Members of the Assembly commended Rt. Hon. Meranda for her unique leadership style, describing her as a dedicated and visionary lawmaker with a track record of selfless service and commitment to legislative excellence. They expressed confidence in her ability to further strengthen the Assembly’s legislative agenda in her new role as Deputy Speaker.
The re-election of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa and the emergence of new principal officers reaffirmed the stability and continuity of the Lagos State House of Assembly as it continues to drive impactful policies and legislation for the development of the State.
