In a significant move to preserve and celebrate the cultural heritage of the Awori people, His Majesty, Oba Professor Adeyemi Abdukabir Obalanlege, Ph.D., MCIPR, MPRII, FHEA, Olota of the Paramount and Ancient Ottaland, officially inaugurated the planning committee for the 2024 Iganmode Cultural Festival today. The ceremony took place at the Ipeti Royal Palace, with the presence of esteemed members of the Olota-in-Council.
Engr. Temitayo Idowu, Otun Bobagunwa of Otta, has been appointed to lead this year’s committee, following his commendable leadership in the previous edition. His Majesty praised the committee’s past successes and issued a call to further elevate the festival’s prestige this year. He underscored the importance of inclusive planning, urging the committee to ensure active participation from all indigenes of Ottaland and neighbouring communities.
Scheduled to commence on December 16, 2024, with a grand finale on December 21, in the historic city of Otta, the Iganmode Cultural Festival holds a pivotal place in Ogun State’s cultural calendar. This year’s edition is poised to not only celebrate Awori traditions but also to highlight developmental projects driven by His Majesty, alongside key contributions from community leaders, political figures, corporate entities, and other distinguished individuals. The festival aims to reaffirm its significance within the national consciousness, particularly in promoting the identity and pride of the Awori subnationality.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Engr. Idowu expressed their commitment to surpassing expectations, emphasizing their dedication to making the 2024 festival a remarkable celebration of Awori culture.
