Another history was recently made in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State. The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun Alli Okunmade 11, officially promoted fourteen traditional chiefs of the ancient city to the next ranks in the Olubadan line.
That would be his very first such exercise since he ascended the throne in March 11 this year, as the 42nd Olubadan.
Two weeks ago, the former governor of the state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and four other chiefs were elevated to new positions. Ladoja was elevated from ‘Osi Olubadà n’ to ‘Otun Olubadà n’.
Eddy Oyewole elevated from ‘Ashipa’ to Osi Olubadan, while Abiodun Kola-Daisi, was promoted from ‘Ekerin’ to Ashipa Olubadà n’.
Meanwhile, last Friday, the 17th of June 2022, additional nine chiefs were also promoted.
On this list are Oloye Rasheed Olalekan Alabi, who was promoted from Ekefa Olubadan to Maye Olubadan of Ibadanland and the Oyo State gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Teslim Folarin elevated from Ayingun Olubadan to Asaaju Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Also on the list are the likes of Senior Chief Kola Babalola (SAN), who moved from Maye Olubadan to Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland; Senior Chief Lateef Oyeola Oyelade from Agbaakin Olubadan to Ekefa Olubadan of Ibadanland; Senior Chief Yekeen Ayoade Adeojo from Aare Alaasa to Agbaakin Olubadan of Ibadanland and Senior Chief Ismaila Akinade Fijabi from Ikolaba Olubadan to Aare Alaasa Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Others are Chief Saka Fola Lapade, who moved from Ayingun Olubadan to Ikolaba Olubadan of Ibadanland; Chief Muibi Ademola Adewuyi from Aare Ago Olubadan to Ayingun Olubadan of Ibadanland and Chief Raufu Yesufu Delesolu, who got promoted to Aare Ago Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The two epoch events, held at the Alli-Iwo palace of the Olubadan, had in attendance those that matter in traditional, social, corporate and political circles of the state. They all came to honour the newly installed Olubadan and at the same time, to celebrate with the promoted chiefs.
The recent elevations in the Olubadan line was necessitated by the demise of the immediate past Olubadan, late Oba Saliu Adetunji. Which made Senator Olalekan Balogun, the then Otun Olubadan, become the new Olubadan. This further paved way for the elevations of the senior chiefs behind him.
