On Friday 9th December, 2022, the ancient town of Abeokuta came to life as popular Egba-born business man, Oluwagbemiga Ogunbunmi popularly known as “Lakesi” was installed as the Babalaje Alapata of the entire Yoruba land.
“Alapata” is a Yoruba word for those that professionally butcher animals, especially cows for food. They all belong to the National Butchers Union of Nigeria under their president, High Chief John Osemede Adun. The association which has presence across 36 states of the country and FCT inclusive has regional coordinators. Alhaji Biliaminu Eleshinmeta is the coordinator of the South West region of the association whose activities cover Delta and Edo states.
The region, having taken many things into consideration, decided to install Lakesi as its Babalaje, a high ranked title which is more like an ambassador of the association. The event was held at the prestigious Abeokuta Sports Club, Abeokuta Ogun State. Where many chieftains of the association of the butchers in South across the states in the region spend quality time to witness the installation of the brand new Babalaje Alapata.
The Installation exercise was done by Alhaji Eleshinmeta in the presence of other top chieftains of the association across the region. Each of them turned to pray and wish the new Babalaje well as he ascended the enviable position. Immediately after the installation, the dance floor was fully open as the chieftains of the association led by the chairman of the Ogun State Chapter of the association, Alhaji Lamidi Oni while the iconic musician, Alhaji Shefiu Alao was on stage singing to entertain them.
Lakesi later stormed the dance floor in company of his 4 beautiful wives as they dazzled before the music band while the audience watched them rocked the party. Family, friends and associates also joined the celebrant as they rejoiced with him on his installation as Babalaje Alapata of the South Western region. The party was a big event which was well planned by New U Concepts, a classy and wave making event planner which is highly sought-after in town. The creative MC Amodu Agba-Oro anchored the event with class as he engaged the host and the audience throughout the event with refreshing comical stories.
