News making rounds has revealed that thugs invaded the All Progressive Congress (APC) campaign rally in Tungbobiri community of Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa state on Saturday, killing one person and injuring sixteen others.
The injured persons were reportedly stabbed by the hoodlums, who killed an APC member identified as Brave Embikoro.
The incident at a rally organised by the APC for its Bayelsa West Senatorial candidate, Captain Karimu at Tungbobiri community.
Some APC members claimed that the violence was carried out by PDP thugs in retaliation of the attack in a PDP rally in Famgbe, where one person was killed.
It was gathered that the Karimu climbed the podium to deliver his speech when the thugs stormed the place.
There was pandemonium at the venue as the thugs, who came with assorted weapons scattered the chairs.
The Secretary of the APC, Alabo Martin confirmed the incident.
Martins said: “A party member was killed in Bayelsa West senatorial Campaign today in Tungbo Abiri in Sagbama local government area of the state.
APC Senatorial candidate, Capt. Mathew Karimo had gone on a political campaign at that community when thugs in their numbers, shooting sporadically and scattered the arena.
“Cars were destroyed, sound system and canopies were vandalised. Three party faithful were shot. Presently one out of the three, is confirmed dead.
“We use this medium to appealed to the general public for urgent intervention and rescue our supporters from further attacks by thugs”.
The spokesperson of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, stated that one person have been arrested.
He said: “On 2nd February, 2019, at about 1530hours, thugs disrupted APC campaign rally at Tungbabiri, Sagbama Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
