OTUNBA YEMI LAWAL BECOMES FELLOW OF INSTITUTE OF TAXATION

On Saturday 17th November 2018 the council of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria elevated real estate guru, OtunbaYomiLawalto the fellowship status of the institute. The award was conferred on him during the institutes 2018 Annual Dinner. The event was held at the beautiful Nana Hall of Event Centre Limited, Plot 1, Block 1, Hakeem Balogun Street, Central Business District, Alausa, Ikeja-Lagos.

The event was to recognise outstanding individuals and corporate bodies who have contributed in diverse ways towards the advancement of the institute and the Nigeria Tax system. It was also an avenue to confer fellowship on eligible associate members who had satisfied the relevant conditions as laid down by the council,

In the course of the programme, Chief (Dr.) Cyril IkemefunaNwobodo Ede, who is the President/Chairman of the Council, stated the importance of Taxation to the growth of Nigerian economy. According to him, Over the last 10 months, we have witnessed a lot of activities at the institute and the Nigerian tax space. We cannot, but agree that taxation is becoming increasingly challenging to mobilize the needed revenue to fund government and development project by relying on oil revenue alone. At the Federal and sub-national levels, strategies are being implemented to increase the yield from taxes and to bring more tax payers into the tax net. This has brought about a frenzy of activities involving the revenue authorities involving the revenue authorities, tax professionals, tax payers and all stakeholders in the tax system.” he explained.

He congratulates member,  who were being conferred, having been members for 5 years and having fulfilled relevant obligations set by the Council. Obviously, this is an indication of your progression as a member of the institute and as a tax professional. Expectedly, this fellowship conferment comes with responsibilities and requires higher level of professionalism and commitment towards improving the profession and continued existence of the institute”.

He also congratulated other awardees on their nomination for prestigious awards. “This is to show that the Institute values their unquantifiable contributions to the development and substance of our institute and the Nigerian tax system. It is therefore, expected that you devote Time and Energy towards sustaining the existence of your institute by engaging in activities that would promote the profession and the institute.”

About 3,844 members were being conferred with fellowship status of The Chartered Institute Of Taxation of Nigeria. OtunbaSaheedAdeyemiLawalis one of them.

According to the inscription on the plaque presented to Otunba, it states that “SaheedAdeyemiLawal is today upgraded to the status of a fellow of the institute, given under the common seal of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria”.

The real estate guru, OtunbaYemiLawaland his beautiful wife, Chief AyotundeLawalwere in joyous moods as they received the plaque and certificate.
