The Rivers State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party-PDP-Ambassador Desmond Akawor is deeply troubled right now over the influx of members of All Progressives Congress (APC) into his party PDP in Rivers State.
He made this known when he denied not being involved in settling the rift between Senator Magnus Abe’s factional group against that of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. Ambassador Akawor, who was a former Nigeria’s Ambassador in South Korea during President Jonathan’s administration, admitted that he was never at any meeting with a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Rivers State, as his major headache currently was on how to manage the influx of APC members coming to join PDP, which he said would take place soon. He asserted that over 600 members of APC in Rivers state were on their way to renouncing the membership of APC and joining PDP.
The inability of the Rivers State APC chapter to resolve its discrepancies emanating from the rift existing between Senator Abe and Minister of Transportation Rt. Honourable Amaechi, over the election/selection of the party’s governorship candidate in 2019 has flowed over and lingered for long.
The inability of APC in Rivers State to participate in elections since 2015 when it had challenged the incumbent Governor Wike and left him with an easy ride back to political power in 2007 had affected the morale of APC members in the state. Before now, some key members of the APC in Rivers State had defected to PDP in Rivers State.
