The Story of CHEMSTAR Grp CEO
Remi Awode is a big name in the Paint industry. He is a Paint Czar. Last Friday 17th of January, Engr. Emmanuel Aderemi Awode was conferred with a Honorary Doctor of Business Admin (Honoris Causa) from Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU) Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun State.
It was for his impeccable character and exemplary business acumen. Remi Awode is a big player in the Paint industry. He is one professional entrepreneur who has made a mark in the industry. In 1989, Mr. Remi Awode started his work career as a Chemical Analyst with Bato Chemical Laboratories, Lagos.
In 1991, he left the company to join International Paints for West Africa Plc (IPWA) as a Paints Chemist. It was at IPWA that his passion for Paints manufacturing came to fore.
In 1994, he left IPWA and registered Chemstar Paints Industrial Nigeria Limited with the sole aim of manufacturing paints and allied products under the brand name FINECOAT PAINTS. He set out as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Chemstar Paints and with self-determination to succeed. Mr. Remi Awode has taken the company to an enviable state. Today, to the glory of God, FINECOAT PAINT has become a household name in Nigeria.
Mr. Emmanuel Aderemi Awode was born in Lagos on Saturday, 7th September 1963 into the family of Dr. Dickson. Adekunle Awode& Mrs. Delphine Modupeola Awode.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
1969: Mr. Remi Awode started his primary education at Ereko Methodist School, Lagos
1976 – 1981: Government College, Ikorodu
1982, Mr.Remi Awode gained admission into The Polytechnic, Ibadan to Study Chemistry, the subject he loves so much. He graduated with a Higher National Diploma (Upper Credit).

AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS
A few of the numerous awards received by S/Apostle Remi Awode are mentioned below:
1.Fellow, The Polytechnic Ibadan. The prestigious Fellowship award of his Alma mata, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, for his outstanding contribution to the infrastructural and economic development of the institution. He was the first alumnus to be so honored in the history of the institution for over 40 years of existence of the old citadel of learning.
2. Fellow Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria in 2012.
3. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Excellence in Enterprise Award in recognition of his track record of outstanding performance in the enterprise.
4. INRI Widows Foundation Distinguished Philanthropist in Socio-economic Development Award.
5. Role Model Award, The Chemical Society of Nigeria [Lagos Chapter].
6.The Distinguished Leadership in National Development Gold Award [D”LINGA] by Corporate and Media Africa Communications.
7. Meritorious Award, TheIjamidoChildrens’ Home, Ota, Ogun State.
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Out of all the numerous CSR activities embarked upon by Mr.RemiAwode, the most outstanding is the construction fully equipped Fifty Million Naira (N50 million) Chemistry Laboratory for the Chemistry Department, The Polytechnic Ibadan in 2007. The Laboratory was named after Dr. J. A. Adejumobi (the then Rector of the Polytechnic)and was commissioned by the then Executive Governor of Oyo State, Otunba [Dr.] Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala on Friday, December 7, 2007, during the 24th Convocation of the institution to the delight of all and sundry.
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE GROWTH OF THE BODY OF CHRIST
Mr.RemiAwode, led the construction of the 5,000 capacity Ultra-Modern Church edifice for the Cherubim & Seraphim Movement Church, Divine Blessing Cathedral. To the glory of God, the multi-million naira project was commissioned on the 14th of January, 2017.
REMI AWODE FOUNDATION (RAF)
In the year 2014, RAF successfully built the Vicarage for the Spiritual Father and Chairman of the Cherubim & Seraphim Movement Church, Worldwide, popularly known as Ayo Ni O. The Vicarage is at the Galilee Land, OrileIgbon.
To date, RAF has empowered over 500 people in different business ventures. RAF has also given University Scholarships to over 70 Nigerian students, schooling both abroad and in Nigeria.
RAF has successfully sponsored more than 30 Christians from different denominations to the Holy Land in Israel. This alone has added a great value to their spiritual growth.
In the year 2016, RAF donated blocks of classrooms to Divine Blessing Bible College and Seminary, a move that has positioned the Bible College among the best Bible Colleges in its environs.
HOBBIES
His hobbies include playing lawn tennis, reading and traveling.

CHEMSTAR GROUP: JOURNEY SO FAR
1995- Chemstar Paints Ind. (Nig.) Ltd; the flagship of the group commenced its operations from a rented one room and a shop out of the 10-room apartment belonging to late Pa Henry Agbebaku at No. 26, Kayode Street, IjayeOgba, Lagos State.
2000- To meet increasing demands for its products, the production line was moved from No1, Bodunrin Caulcrick Close, Caterpillar Bus Stop, Ogba to 114, Oba Akran, Ikeja. However, sales and administrative offices remained at Bodunrin Caulcrick close. As part of the introduction of new products, Finecoat Wood Finish products were launched during the company 5th anniversary in 2000.
2001- As a result of increase in the volume of paints produced, Chemstar paints moved from 114, Oba Akran to a 4 by 8,000 square meter property at No 6, Obasa close, off Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja.
2002 – Premium Finecoat products were introduced to the consumers. The products include premium and Excel products, designed to satisfy the high-end consumers. Chemstar paints commenced the manufacturing of Finecoat marine coatings to the public.
2003- This year also witnessed the introduction of high-quality car paints, branded as finecoat Automel. Finecoat POP Emulsion was added to the array of products produced by Chemstar paints.
2005- Chemstar Industries Ghana Ltd was established to manufacture Finecoat paint product for the West Afican market. -Finecoat Adhesives product (Hi-Bond) was introduced to the public.
2008- SHIELD PAINTS, the company’s Premium brand was unveiled to cater for consumers in that category. The brand comprises of Shield Excel, Shield Easy Living, Shield Gloss, Shield Satin Finish, Shield Industrial and MARINE products.
2010- On May 1st, 2010, Chemstar Paints Ind.(Nig.)Ltd, manufacturers of Finecoat&Shield Paintscommissioned her ultra-modern Corporate Headquarters at Km32 Caaso Bus Stop, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Alagbado Lagos State. The Company also markedher 15th year Anniversary on May 23rd, 2010.
2013- CPIN INDUSTRIES, Plastic Division started operations. The company was set up for the production of all the plastic containers for the paint products. CPIN INDUSTRIES, Chemical Division was set up for the importation of all chemical raw materials for Paint, Cosmetics, Polyurethane and Food Industries.
2018- FINEDECOR WALLCOVERINGS was set up washable Vinyl wall coverings, 3D Wall panels, Paintable wall coverings, etc.
