Quote of the week
“Fashion fades but Style is eternal”
~Yves Saint Laurent
The quote above by a renowned and reputable Fashion Designer isn’t an unpopular or unfamiliar quote to most fashion lovers and enthusiasts.
Yes, most often than not fashion trends do change but some fashionistas have learnt to master the art of either “setting new trends” or “smelling a new trend” and rocking it even before it becomes boring and common.
Here comes the Ankara Patched Patterns on Plain Fabrics, a new fashion trend on the block making audacious entry into the fashion highway. I personally consider this as a highly creative garment designing craft. It requires the combination of the mastery of juxtaposition of the basic elements and the principles of design seamlessly to create a uniquely beautiful piece.
I will classify this concept of designing as a method of embelishment that requires tracing or cutting out the patterns on the Ankara or a total deconstruction of the Ankara fabric. The cut out patterns are then grafted or rearranged on a plain fabric to achieve what is called “Dominance”.
Now there are various special skills needed or required for a designer to able to achieve this unique craft when working on colourful Ankara Patterns, so the piece or dress doesn’t appear overdone or ugly.
As depicted in the pictures displayed, this concept is best applied on plain fabrics, but then you will notice that a couple of highly talented designers are audacious enough to try it on some striped or polka dotted fabrics, it’s all about been bold and daring.
Whatever your taste is, just have it in mind that there are rules and principles guiding designing, if properly applied, your are sure to come up with a fabulous and a unique outcome!
Do have a fashionable week
