PDP makes demands of President Buhari

The leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seems ready to go beyond clamour to achieving it demands of restructing having in mind that it would need its lawmakers help to push and aid to achieve it.

It plans to push a Bill on restructuring at the National Assembly.

This plan was revealed at the end of the first National Working Committee meeting with the PDP Governors Forum in Asaba held through Sunday night to Monday morning.

The PDP also made a demand from President Muhammadu Buhari about attacks on farmers by arms-carrying herdsmen.

The party condemns in strong terms the unabated killings across Nigeria and wants Buhari address the nation on how to end the carnage.

The statement read at a press conference after the meeting by the National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, said that the PDP NWC also condemned in strong terms what it described as “massive corruption” going on in the management of fuel subsidy which the Federal Government had declared non-existent.It claims that billions of Naira are deducted monthly at Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meetings.

Fight Boko Haram With Clean Hands

Again, the planned withdrawal of $1 billion Insurgency Fund from the Excess Crude Account was condemned by the opposition party.

It says local governments controlled by the PDP were vehemently opposed to the unilateral withdrawal of $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account by the Federal Government under any guise.

“Neither the Governors’ Forum nor the Federal Executive Council have the power of appropriation of Federation Accounts, as such powers resided with the National and State Assemblies,” the party said.

No More Sacred Cows

The PDP urged President Buhari to direct the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to adhere to the Rule of Law by obeying Court judgements and orders.

Am example giving by the party is a case involving the Ekiti State Government against EFCC. The part wants the anti-graft agency to restrain itself from further political intimidation and harassment of known or perceived political opponents.

The National Chairman of the PDP said the party had been the author of restructuring which was further expressed in the Report of the 2014 National Conference, accusing the APC of paying lip service to a matter of national importance.

According to him, the party’s leadership has mandated its members in the National Assembly to immediately commence the process of initiating a Bill to address issues bothering on restructuring.

The meeting had in attendance the Chairman of the PDP Governor’s Forum and Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his Akwa Ibom counterpart, Emmanuel Udom. Others were Governor Ben Ayade of Cross Rivers State, Governor Okezie Ikpazu of Abia State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Governor Dave Umahi of Eboyin State, Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State and Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State.
