The enterprising Queen, ESTHER NWAUKA recently won a Plus size beauty pageant as MISS BIG World TOURISM Pageant held at Lagos. The Port Harcourt Rivers state based celebrity lady has been in the news since 2010 when her interest in serving and delivering quality humanitarian services to the down trodden in the society. She was guest of City People Magazine at their, Port Harcourt Bureau Office at 36 Nsukka Street Mile One by Education Bus Stop where she talked about her dual roles in beauty pageantry, Cosmetology business and Real Estate/Property as the duo of Bureau Chief EMEKA AMAEFULA and IBRAHIM BAKARE grilled her on these areas of business. I am Queen Esther Nwauka.
When did you participate in the Miss Big World Tourism pageant event?
Yes I participated at the Miss Big World Tourism Beauty Contest in 2015. And I was supposed to handover my crown in 2016 but there was no-one to take over from me and I am still reigning till now. So, I am still the current Miss Big World Tourism Queen.
How has it been since 2015 when you first won the Miss Big World Tourism beauty pageant?
It has been an awesome and inspiring as it has exposed me and taking me to places that I had never dreamt of. I have achieved things I have never dreamt that I would have achieved. In fact it has been an awesome experience all these years. And I thank God for that.
Do you have any foundation that you have been using to reach out to people out there?
Yes, in 2017 I registered and gave birth to a Non Governmental Organization NGO Known as The Eagles HEIGHT We are a humanitarian Foundation into reach-out programmes for the less privilege persons such as widows, orphans, and the society at large.
Have you engaged into any activity so far?
Yes, we have a programme that we have made a yearly programme and it happens every December each year. It is called THE WIDOWS SMILE. It is all about reaching out to the widows as we put smiles on their faces in the spirit of the Christmas season. We have other programmes too that we do. Last year we went to the streets of Port Harcourt to feed the destitute as we gave out foodstuffs, from Rumuola Flyover Bridge to Lagos Bus stop Old Port Harcourt town axis. We did this with my sister Group known as GLAM SISTERS that is the PLUS -SIZE Group which give voice to the PLUS SIZE women this is because as a Plus Size Beauty Queen I have to bring together the GLAM women and the ladies on the PLUS SIZE as we help them to have confidence in themselves and give them to appreciate who they are. We teach them how to dress, and the fashion for the PLUS SIZE women and we do reach out sometimes to the orphanage, the Elderly and to the destitute too.
How do you source for funds in carrying out all these programmes?
The truth about it is that funds don’t come easily. We write letters to well meaning Nigerians and some charitable organizations and Donor agencies as some organizations do help us with materials and some donate cash. While others we sources for funds within ourselves like when we went to the HOME FOR THE ELDERLY in Port Harcourt the GLAM SISTERS contributed foodstuff like bags of rice, Beans and other some plantain for the project. Before you know it we realized everything we needed for the project.
As a Plus Size lady, how do you feel being a Plus size lady?
It’s an awesome experience as you know that it is one thing to be a Plus size lady and it is another thing to have confidence in your body. We have a campaign tagged “NOBODY SHAMING” , it is high time plus size women have confidence in themselves. This is because nobody will make you feel bad without your consent. So, your confidence kills people who want to belittle you, so as a Plus Size Queen and as a plus size lady I see myself as a role model to other plus size ladies. The way I carry myself it is something that a lot of Plus sizes ladies should look up to. I don’t regret being a Plus size lady.
Right now are there magazines or journals that take care of the interest of Plus Size ladies in Nigeria?
Yes, there is one called TOOSH Delight Magazine. It is a Sister magazine and it is being published by a sister called Ms Nkoyo Daniels. She is a Plus Size lady too and she a fashionista Plus size model. Toosh delight touches a lot of things that concern plus size women. Your dearly (Queen Esther Nwauka) is on the cover page of TOOSH DELIGHT magazine. So, I will advice every plus size lady to get a copy of that magazine as it will go a long way of helping you build your self-confidence and know the right cloths to wear for plus size at the right time.
Looking at you, you are beautiful and fashionable, how long does it take you to dress up before going out each day for an occasion?
You know it doesn’t tickle me much, as long as I realize that I am a Plus Size lady and who I am. Now it is one thing to be Plus Size and another thing to realize it that you are plus size. You know a lot of ladies are Plus but they don’t want to people to belief that they are plus size as you see them struggling with cloths. I don’t struggle with cloths anymore. You know one thing that was affecting me earlier on was getting the size of cloths that fit well on me. But right now it doesn’t give me any issue as I make my cloths. Before when I go to Boutiques they will tell you that they don’t have my size. So, I don’t want to go through that process anymore. I now make my cloths bespoke . And I now make my dresses instead of my going to tailors as they keep telling you stories So, I don’t want to go through that way again as I do make my cloths and I feel good in them.
Do you have any other businesses that you do out there?
Yes, I do. I run a cosmetic shop in Port Harcourt known as GALAXY World COSMETIC store. We are into perfumery, we do weavons and jewelries. I run another business as we are into sales and supply of Aluminum Roofing sheets. VON Aluminum is an Aba based Aluminum Company and I am its Sales Representative here at Port Harcourt.
That is to say that you are into Real Estate/Property business?
Yes, of course I do. I have interest in the Real Estate and property. I can help you get genuine land to buy and I can help you get genuine houses to buy. Even landed properties be it houses, land and I can help you cover your roofs that will give that your house that beautiful look that it deserves.
How can you rate Property/Real estate business in Port Harcourt?
Real estate business is growing as won’t say that it is diminishing it is a business that keep growing as Port Harcourt is expanding and Real Estate business is expanding too but we are having challenges as people on the side are trying to make Real Estate business look somehow like land speculators or land agents who because they are not registered they sell land that are not genuine as people end up buying land that have been sold already and run into trouble as they get them sold double times. My best advice is that anybody who wants to go into property business should go and look for Real Estate managers so that you don’t run into any kind of problem. Yes, real estate business is doing real great in Port Harcourt and in Rivers state as a whole.
Give us a parting word for Port Harcourt fashion trend, how is it like nowadays?
The Port Harcourt Fashion industry is something else as I can’t say but it is really growing the way people expected it to grow as everything is all about Lagos when it comes to fashion. Now iam a Plus size lady and a Plus size Model. In Lagos they have Plus Size Clothing and Plus size models. They forget that Rivers state people and Rivers women are Plus size in nature so, we need to grow the fashion industry in Port Harcourt so that they can carry everybody along both slim and the middle sized women. You fashion is all about women. When it comes to Fashion it is all about women as Men’s fashion is by the way side. If don’t carry every woman along in the fashion industry you are not getting it all right, so the fashion industry in Port Harcourt is not doing really well. Go to the Fashion Outlets in Port Harcourt you will not get a Plus size cloth sometimes it makes me feel bad. As you can get dresses for Plus size as sometimes it make me feel real bad only when you travel all the way to Lagos. All the fashions outlets in Port Harcourt are all about slim ladies and women. It is not really growing until they involve the Plus size ladies it is not complete that is the truth
