A Lagos doctor, Adepoju Anuoluwapo is now being arraigned after performing cosmetic surgery on a client who later lost her life as the procedure allegedly failed.
A source close to Journalists confirmed that the cosmetic surgeon, who runs the MedContour Services Ltd, a medical facility in the commercial city, was arrested on Wednesday over the case.
On Friday, Anuoluwapo was brought before the federal high court, Ikoyi, for trial after the federal government had immediately shuttered her medical facility in response to the death of the patient.
A document relating to the case alleged that the surgery she performed had prompted the death of “Nneka Miriam Barbra Onwuzuligbo” while she had failed to comply with government summons.
“The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), at various times, received consumer complaints regarding the alleged conduct of the defendant,” it read in part.
“The allegations are that the defendants’ (Anuoluwapo and her facility) services are unsafe for consumers and that the defendants’ made false, misleading, and deceptive representations.
“In particular, Vivian Onwuzuligbo, a family member of Nneka Miriam Barbra Onwuzuligbo (now deceased), alleged that the deceased died as a result of the defendants’ failed cosmetic surgery.
“In response to these allegations, the Commission instituted an investigation in furtherance of its statutory mandate to protect consumers.
“The defendants, without sufficient cause, refused to appear in response to a notice of investigation and summons.
“And intentionally withheld the documents required for the purpose of investigating the allegations made against the defendants.”
As of when this report was filed, it is understood that the state police authorities had already brought the accused surgeon in for the commencement of court procedures.
