On Thursday, 27th October, 2022, Ijebu Professional Excellence Foundation honoured a new set of Ijebu professionals who have excelled in their chosen professions. Engr. Olusegun Mafe, the Chairman, PEF Governing Council, revealed a lot about the foundation at the 11th Edition of the Merit Award Ceremony. He said, “the foundation since its inception in 2009 has organized this iconic award ceremony annually until a hiatus occurred as a result of the demise of the founder of IPEF, Chief (Dr) Sir OIadipupo Bailey (may his blessed soul continue to rest in peace), and the subsequent Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, resulting in long periods of lookdowns. Once again, we thank Almighty God that the Foundation is back on course.
The Ijebu Professional Excellence Foundation (IPEF) was conceived, initiated and founded in 2009 by the late illustrious and indefatigable Ijebu son, Chief (Dr) Sir Oladipupo Abiodun Bailey, of blessed memory, to promote PROFESSIONALISM in all its ramifications in Ijebuland.
May 1 at this juncture, request that we all stand up and observe a minute silence in remembrance of our departed, beloved and visionary founder of IPEF. From its inception, one of the key objectives of the foundation has been the identification and recognition of distinguished Ijebu indigenes (sons and daughters) who have excelled in their chosen professional fields, careers and endeavors. The rationale for this forward-looking objective is to ensure that accomplished and deserving Ijebu professionals are not relegated to the background but given prominence, celebrated and brought into limelight, particularly in Ijebuland as well as the nation across the Nigerian diaspora. Hence, the renewed celebration taking place today at this awards ceremony, following the 2019-2021 unfortunate hiatus.
Over the years, about 164 prominent and outstanding Ijebu sons and daughters who have excelled in their professional fields, careers and undertakings, have been accordingly honoured with the awards. I therefore wish to congratulate the select group of 23 nominees receiving the awards today.
It is noteworthy that the Awards are given solely on merit, based on two defined criteria; being an Ijebu indigene (Epe, Remo, Ikorodu and Ijebu divisions) and being adjudged to have achieved professional excellence.
Apart from satisfying the 2 basic criteria, Ijebu indigeneship (Epe, Remo, Ikorodu, Ijebu division and being an outstanding and accomplished professional, IPEF awardees have the obligation to contribute meaningfully to the actualisation and implementation of other objectives, goals and aspirations of the foundation.
Furthermore. as IPEF stakeholders, Merit and Honorary Awardees are expected to participate in two interactive fora: Body of Awardees and the proposed College of Professionals, both of which are being reactivated, revamped and repositioned to facilitate effective networking amongst awardees.
In this regard. the foundation had established a website (www.http://ipef.com.ng) during the hiatus to facilitate and encourage interactive exchange of information amongst IPEF stakeholders.
Also during the hiatus, the foundation acquired a new corporate office which needs to be made functional and upgraded to befit the image of the professional body representing outstanding, distinguished and prominent professionals in Ijebuland. While being sensitive to your extant generous contributions and donations to the IPEF Scholarships Fund, awardees are requested to kindly support the efforts in providing a befitting office/secretariat for the foundation in the quest to move IPEF forward!
Once again. I wish to heartily congratulate the 2022 Select Group of IPEF Awardees. Your individual antecedents have qualified you and earned you membership of this prestigious and restricted cadre of distinguished and illustrious sons and daughters of Ijebuland”.
Who are those who have been honoured by IPEF since 2009? We can tell you.
