There has been a lot of rush for landed property in the last few months in Osapa London, Lekki, Lagos, since the commencement of the reclamation of the new estate, called Osapa Mega.
Don’t forget that, land in the old Osapa London estate is scarce now. A lot of property developers have bought and developed in this old Osapa.
This new reclamation is the extension of Osapa London which was occupied by water.
It’s 150 hectares of land reclamation which will be massive when complete.
This, according to the Chairman of Kazeem Royal Properties Limited- the developers of the city, Prince Kazeem Eletu. He explained that the estate will sit on over 150 hectares of land, which will contain a five-star hotel, schools, glasshouse building, hospital and mall, among other amenities. It will also serve as the new base of Osapa Mega City.
The new estate is located just a few minutes from Lekki, lies between various shopping centres and is surrounded by schools, parks and a flourishing local business scene. It will be part of the proposed new layout, being prepared by the United Arab Emirates-based firm, Abu Dhabi Construction Company and other renowned construction firms based in France.
For you to be eligible in buying a portion of this estate, you must have what it takes as a developer.
Presently, companies have been lobbying to get their own portion of this estate as work on reclamation intensify.
A plot of land is said to be around 90 million naira in this new estate, but the price is not an impediment for many investors. Don’t forget all the land in Osapa is gazetted with verified documents.
For those who don’t know much about this town in Lagos: Osapa is located along the Lekki-Epe Expressway between the 5th & 6th roundabouts. It is about 15 minutes drive to Victoria Island and about 35 minutes during rush hour period. Osapa is unfortunately one of the unplanned parts of Lagos where some people have just obtained lands and built structures without due protocols observed. There is no central management authority in Osapa except in the estates that have restricted entry.
Osapa has several entrances and exits, some streets have good interlocked roads while others are bad with potholes in them. Residents usually join resources to interlock their roads. There are drainage channels on both sides of most roads in Osapa while some streets don’t have drainage, which makes Osapa flooded during the rainy season; this is caused by clogged gutters and those roads without drainage channels.
Property in Osapa appreciates rapidly mainly because of its distance to V. I. Another firms son property appreciates quickly is because; developers of estates in the area do a lot of work on proper infrastructure and maintenance.
BRIEF HISTORY ON OSAPA LONDON
History is replete with stories of how lands and kingdoms are discovered accidentally or built through the painstaking efforts of an individual or collective effort of a group of people. From the great rise of the Roman Empire to the fall of Constantinople, there is always a great fable or myth behind the preceding landmarks.
This perhaps explains why Osapa London, a 254.558-hectare in highbrow Lekki area, has become one of the most sought-after properties in West Africa.
Osapa London is a 200-year old town. Prior to its modern name, the parcel of land used to be called Osapa Village. However owing to the rapid development springing up back then, the name ‘Osapa Village’ metamorphosed into Osapa London. The name Osapa (Osapa Lolo in full) means “The Lagoon Is Calm.”
The story, however, would have been incomplete without making reference to the tussle over ownership of the land which was eventually awarded in favour of the late Chief Gbadamosi Eletu-Odibo clan as against the Ojomo Chieftaincy Family.
It is said that one of the main reasons the Eletu Odibo family annually celebrates Osapa day, aside from being the date they won their land case that consequently turned the entire family into overnight billionaires, is that it is a subtle signal indicating that they deserve to have a king that would rule over them. Originally, the annual festival should have been christened “Ojude Oba” as been done in the Ijebu Ode, but they have no crowned king yet.
According to Prince Kazeem Eletu-Odibo, a scion of the Odibo clan, his grandfather used to stay in Itele in Ota. Unfortunately, he had a problem with childbearing. It is said that they used to die before they grow up. So one day, he was motivated to consult the oracle, where he was told to go and settle close to a big Lagoon.
“That was how he left Itele for Osapa. When he eventually berthed here (Osapa), he met a hunter and his daughter who were the original settlers in Osapa village, a parcel of land given to them by the Ojomu royal family for subsistence farming.
Long story short, the hunter accepted him when he explained what led him to Osapa. As time went by, my grandfather fell in love and got married to the hunter’s daughter. Fortunately enough, they started having children. After several years, my grandfather took a second wife.
Interestingly, when my father was growing up, he took after his father and became a renowned herbalist”.
