The founder of FCMB, Otunba Subomi Balogun, is the head of Arojojoye ruling house of Ijebuland. He hosted the annual family meeting on Monday 30th of December 2019. The meeting was held at the Funsegbuwa family museum in Ijebu Ode.
The Arojojoye ruling house consists of 4families namely: the Bubiade Royal Family, The Tunwase Royal Family, Jadiara Royal Family and the Fusengbuwa Royal Family. At the meeting Otunba Balogun opened up on many matters bothering the family concerning the speculations on who becomes the next Awujale. Below is what Otunba Subomi Balogun, the Olori Ebi, Arojojoye ruling House, said at the meeting.
âThere are so many things we say during our family meeting every year, and a lot of people want to hear from us, especially now that there are different issues causing crisis in the family. But by Godâs grace, my wish is that we will sort everything out. We will quench the fire of those drawing us back. We will quench the fire of those trying to separate us, we will beg God to help us, I am not happy that there are spaces in the auditorium that people didnât filled. If they ask where are the Princes and Princesses, or there is something about them, many will start jumping and saying they are the ones there, anyone who does not come to this kind of meeting is not a real prince or princessâ.
âI am so happy to see everyone, I remember about 7 or 8 years ago, when you chose me as the family head, I rejected it. I told you I am living in Lagos, that I wonât be able to be coming all the time. May God rest the souls of the departed in the family.
They said itâs my fatherâs house responsibilities.
They ask me to do it that nothing will go wrong, I told them we all have to work hand in hand, so I have suggested that, after me, committee that will be working, we have met that if I am not around and there is something urgent that needs a quick attention, there are three kings among us and each representative from each family branch, I want to create a committee, that when I am not around, they can take care of urgent matters. And they will feed me back afterwardâ.
âI will like to say and clarify some things today, Initially I wanted to hear from each and everyone, but I will say a little that concerns me, because people actually want to hear from me and those who want to abuse us, usually abuse me first. I want to tell you that, it is a sin to God, a sin that can lead to hell fire, for some people to be suggesting or talking about becoming a king or their brothers becoming a king when the king is still on throne. It has never happened in Ijebu before. When Gbelebuwa was on the throne, I think we were not young then. No one dares to talk about how they will have the next king. And those who have the fear of God should not do such, because we donât know what God wants.
Part of those saying they want to be king, while someone is still on the throne, God might take their lives before the time they are thinking of. Our lives is in Godâs hands.
So, I want to beg you donât be part of those saying all these things, and whoever you see talking about it should be reported to the right authorities. Apart from being the head of the family, the Awujale that is on the throne today, made me the head of all Princes and Princesses in Ijebuland in 1985, in the presence of everyone. And everyone knows I am very close to Awujale. Everyone knows we were born in the same year. Whoever has the fear of God should not be thinking someone wants to be king, who it is the turn of certain family. Only God makes a King.
So I want to beg you, all those who come to this meeting and those who donât but their minds are with us.
Donât join them in saying this ungodly thing, because there must be something Awujale heard before he can say what he said about it, and I want to tell you. It is true that it is the turn of our family, but the right person will show himself, remember what Awujale said the day we opened this museum, he said within us, there are lot of people, he said some of us are not princes and princesses, he said a lot of us are slaves children, he said some of us are not even Ijebu, those are the people going around to talk about who is the next king.
Remember some people took us to court,
Awujale has to come to testify and to God be the glory we won the case, let us look at what God has done for us, let us not get involved, it is not even good, it is ungodly, please I want to beg you, whoever comes to you to talk about who becomes a king, if you canât chase them alone, call police to arrest them,
I have also talked about this matter up to 3times here. some people said I am waiting for any of my four children to become Awujale, people who know me well can say that canât be true, I have also said it here times without number that what God gave me is enough,
I am not looking for something else after that, I am the son of Asiru Balogun, my mother is from Tunwase, if you look at the grave of the people in this museum, Adeyimika son of Tunwase is my grandmother, if you think about the Otunba title very well, many people who are Otunba are from the mother side, in the history of Ijebu, Otunba does not belong to those from mother side, except the ones that they donât have from a father side, and they have from mother side.
In Ijebuland, when they say something happen to a king, those who are next to be king will run away, they wonât wait, but it is now that we are hearing that they are the next king, please I beg you donât join them, they are messenger of Satan, and God will help us, God is being our king and Ijebuland too, whoever want to cause problem should not use our name. In a nutshell, I want to say something.
You all know some people who are not part of us gathered themselves and call themselves princes and princesses, most of the people that we think are true prince are going about to meet them that they want to be king. They are saying so many things but I choose not to ask them. Â
Whoever told you or carrying rumors that me, Subomi Balogun, is interested or putting any of my sons forward to be king, tell them God will punish them, what God has done for me is enough, I am not interested in becoming a king, I donât even I want to sit down and start discussing Obaship. I am someone who has the fear of God. I donât poke nose into what other people are doing.
Please, all of you have your children. My four sons donât even have knowledge of these things, the ones that speak Yoruba among them cannot speak very well, not to talk of Ijebu, I think just one of them was here when we open the museum, they should please donât mention me and my children, I am contended with what I have. God has blessed me enough that I donât want anything again, except from the Grace of Godâ.
