Come Friday, 22nd October 2021, it will be 27 years that Nigeria and Africa’s pioneer radio DJ, Mr Louis Tunji Marquis died in the USA, aged 52. May his valiant and creative soul continue to rest in perfect peace. Amen.
Tunji Marquis, or Tunji Omo Marquè, to his chums and fans, was a talented Nigerian broadcaster of world standard, pioneer radio/tv disc jockey and humorist.
He was one of the stars who pleased millions of listeners of Nigeria’s, nay Africa’s, first and best commercial radio station, the now-defunct Western Nigeria Broadcasting Service(WNBS), which started broadcasting in 1960, a year after her television sister station, the Western Nigeria Television(WNTV), Ibadan, broke the record as Africa’s first television station.
Tunji Marquis spectacular performances come alive for recall tomorrow on the weekly chit-chat evergreen music-laced SPACE 90.1FM’s 1-hour programme, “STARGAZE/AYEDUN” from 11.00 am to 12.00noon. Please, tune in.
