The reality of the saying that the memory of the righteous is blessed came to the fore on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 as family, friends and well wishers of the late Madam Adeseri Grace Adekeye gathered to hold a remembrance prayer and reception in memory of their beloved mother who passed away exactly 15 years ago.
It was an all-white affair as the children of Mama Adekeye came in in different shades of white alongside their guests. The party was a definition of class as the gathering was less than 150. Let us also quickly tell you that there were COVID-19 precautions already in place for the guests. GALAXY EVENT HALL WAS THE VENUE
The party held at Ogudu, Ojota inside the well decorated and ventilated Galaxy Event Hall. Starting from the entrance, there was strict adherence to the COVID-19 precautions as hand sanitizers were unambiguously displayed right at the gate. That aside, facemasks were distributed to all the guests while handheld thermometer was used to check the temperature of every guest in order to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus; in case there is an unknown carrier around.
Fast forward to the auditorium. Everything was set as at 2:00 pm, the scheduled time of commencement. Guests had started trickling in. The beautifully decorated hall could conveniently accommodate 500 guests but the host intentionally arranged it for a small group of people. The air conditioning were in perfect shape. The venue was not difficult to locate, so it made it a perfect location.
PASTOR OBASA TOOK OPENING PRAYER
The event had started with some blast of music from the stage. Starting with cool gospel tunes from Tope Alabi down to the evergreen ‘Ade Ori Okin’ by the living legend and Mayegun of the source, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal KWAM 1, there was enough fun already even before the band mounted the stage for their performance.
FAST RISING COMPERE, HOLY FACE ENTERTAINED
Comic reliefs flew around the hall while meal was served to entertain guests before the main entertainment hit the ground. He did his best and it paid off as he got cheers and responses from the guests. He also had a side attraction; the comedian came with a dancer called Shekere. Shekere thrilled the audience by dancing to different tunes with a shekere in his hands.
MAMA’S CHILDREN APPEARED GORGEOUS
All Mama’s children appeared in different shades but were all dressed in gorgeous and classy outfits. Starting with Otunba Akin Adekeye aka Olori Ebi, Mrs Tiaye Adetunji and her twin sister, Mrs Kehinde Adeluwa, Mrs Florence Ajayi and the popular Lagos society woman and business mogul, Mrs Remi Talabi popularly known as Ashabi. Their outfits told the story of their mother’s affection for them and vice versa.
FAMILY, FRIENDS & LOVED ONES PAID TRIBUTE TO MAMA ADEKEYE
All those who came to the event definitely know a little about Mama. Some of the people who spoke to City People described Mama as an epitome of motherhood. Some said Mama was a lover to a fault and that is seen even in her children. Others described Mama as very religious and spiritual. According to them, Mama took her time to bring her children up in the fear of the Lord and they had not departed from it fifteen years after her departure.
CCC MEMBERS WERE REPRESENTED
Members of the Celestial Church of Christ, CCC were also in attendance to felicitate with the children of Madam Grace Adekeye as they celebrate their heroine. They came in a good leader and spent ample time to pray with Mama’s children and were equally entertained alongside other guests.
ASHABI STUNNED IN THREE DIFFERENT ATTIRES
Did we tell you that popular society woman, Remi Talabi also known as Ashabi rocked three different outfits as she celebrates her mum’s glorious departure fifteen years ago? Yes, she did. She wore three different stunning white materials at different times of the event. The first was a well-styled lace-like white material with a matching gele, bag and shoes. After her dance with her twin siblings, Ashabi again appeared like a shining moon in a dark cloud as she slayed in another outfit. It was another white material with gold necklace, earrings, shoes and wristwatch, all matching one another.
The 3rd outfit was another stunner. This time around, it was another well stoned super gown with white gele and a simple but classy bead. It was a flowing gown that covered her legs and shoes completely.
KGLONI BOSS WAS EVERYWHERE
If there was any of Madam Remi Talabi’s friends that was spotted virtually everywhere, making sure that things went on well, it was the MD/CEO of Kgloni Jewelries & Investment Ltd. She also slayed in a free-flowing, blinging white attire. To say that she is beautiful is an understatement. But beyond her beauty, she displayed loyalty, sacrifice and served as the eye of her beloved friend, Ashabi.
ASHABI’S COMMITTEE OF SISTERS CAME IN A BIG WAY
They are friends that stick closer than blood siblings. Everything about them was unique at the party. They are called the Committee of Sisters; they are the very close circle of Remi Talabi. Among them are MD/CEOs, top fabric merchants, Jewelry merchants, business moguls, oil and gas top shots and high-ranking politicians, to mention but a few. They were seated at the heart of the auditorium. When it was time for their friend to dance, they all occupied the stage with her and did justice to every tune served by the band, ably led by Boye Best himself.
BOYE BEST SERVED MUSIC FROM THE BANDSTAND
He is popularly called Boye Best. But his real name is Adeyinka Adeboye. He is one of the shining stars in Juju music. He is based in Abeokuta in Ogun State. But he has become big. He now shuttles between Nigeria and other countries to perform. He is an award-winning singer and is in the hall of fame of the prestigious City People Music Award winners.
Boye Best was at the very top of his performance on the night and the response he got from the audience spoke well of his acceptability. Did you know that the guests didn’t want Boye Best to step down from the stage after several hours of continuous performance? In fact, when the lights went off to signal the end of the event, guests switched on their phone torchlights to catch a glimpse of what the top singer was delivering from the stage. It was fun all the way. He was the icing on the cake at this very owambe which sets example for many other parties.
THERE WAS PLENTY OF FOOD & DRINKS
There was more than enough to eat and drink for the few-select in attendance. Bankress Party World served smoky jollof rice, basmati fried rice, white basmati rice with fresh fish, ofada with ayamase stew, poundo yam and eforiro. They also had mixed meat fried rice, vegetable lo Mein noodles, diced chicken in black bean veggie, pan fried fish fillet in sweet and sour sauce, green beans in oyster and tangy sauce, sweet buttered corn, beef in green pepper steak.
Imurak was in charge of succulent amala, gbegiri, ewedu with different assorted meats. Seun Menu fish barbeque was another talking point on the menu list while Multi H juices prepared cocktail. The fun was unlimited. From music to menu and general entertainment, Mama Adekeye’s 15th remembrance will remain a talking point for a long time to come.
