What did she achieve during her tenure? During her tenure, the club came 4th and 5th positions in the Rotary’s “Areas of Focus” and “We Care” Categories and 6th position, overall in District 9110, made up of about 103 Clubs.
On the International rating, Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA got The Prestigious Rotary International Presidential Award with Distinction for 2019-2020.
“These are quite laudable and could not have been achieved without the unflinching support, in quantifiable selfless service in giving of resources and commitment of all the past presidents, Executives and Club Members”, She explained.
“I want to seize this opportunity to thank them all as well as our amiable District Governor Rtn. (Dr.) Jide Akeredolu whose Leadership is invaluable, all District Leaders and Staff; our Friends and Families who supported us throughout the year.
God bless you all”.
“In my service year, I learnt a lot. Some of which are: That we are all at learning curves at different times and in different situations; no one person knows it all; that the TEAM Spirit is most essential as “Together Everyone Achieves More”.
Leadership is not being the “Boss” but it is about selfless service and support for and from the team, helping others realize their potential and giving them the opportunities required in excelling in their areas of strength, helping others to work on their seeming weaknesses with the goal of achieving the required results for the holistic good of the Club. Needless to say, as a Leader, you are responsible for the overall success or God forbid, failure of your team.
Therefore the onus is on you as a good Leader to find ways of actualizing your set goals as nicely but as firmly as may be needed. It means working by exhibiting good and Impactful character and examples. It means rewarding and celebrating the achievements of others so they are encouraged to do more.
It’s like being the Shepherd of a flock by caring an looking for others even beyond the Club level.
For us, it was an all-inclusive one where Members had their own inputs in the Club activities so it was very easy to get the much-needed support and encouragement.
I really could go on and on”.
For me, Leadership is also actually adhering to the 4 Way Test of Rotary which in summary reminds us to be truthful, be fair to all, encourage goodwill and better friendships and be sure it is beneficial to all concerned in all that we do or say whether on the Club or on personal levels.
Let’s tell you a bit about Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA. It was birthed by the Rotary Club of Akowonjo, on the 17th of October, 2012 And the Charter President is Rtn. Adewale Osomo.

and I am the immediate past president, the 8th and 2nd Female President”.
Our 9th and current President for 2020-2021 is Rtn. Alex Abah.
Incidentally, Alex and I are both ex-students of Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School, Ikeja.
The Club started meeting at the Lagos Country Club and later moved its meeting venue to the then Protea Hotel GRA, Ikeja now Radisson Hotel Ikeja GRA.
“I must acknowledge and thank the Hotel Management for their magnanimity in giving us the use of the Hotel at a highly discounted rate in spite of their excellent and high worth service.
We usually meet on Thursdays by 6.30 pm but with the pandemic, we are limited to virtual meetings which I must say are still interesting, resourceful and rewarding”.
“We currently have over 30 members made of different professionals and varying she groups, with about 8 prospective ones who should be joining us soon.
We earned the acronym “The Excellent Club, in our 4th year under the Leadership of Rtn. Bukola Bakare and we have since done all to maintain that tradition of excellence in all we do”.
“Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA is a young Club but has definitely made its mark among older ones at both the District and International levels”.
