Monday 30th of July, 2018 remains a remarkable day for all the member of Diocese of Lagos church of Nigeria (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) as they newly enthroned The Right Rev. Dr Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye as the Diocesan Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos.
The Cathedral church of Christ located at Marina Lagos was filled to the brim as it witnessed the presence of many dignitaries and prominent people like former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs Orelope Adefulure, Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, Deputy Governor of Osun state, Otunba(Mrs) Grace Titilayo Laoye-Tomori, Chief Okeowo, Pastor Ajayi, Barr. Alex Oluwaseun, Rev. Testimony Onifade, Engr. & Mrs Olumide Akinsanmi, Pastor & Mrs Kunle Akinsanmi and many others to rejoice with the newly enthroned Bishop and his family, also the entire member of Diocese of Lagos.
According to the Episcopal synod of the church and in accordance with the church laid down rules and regulations, the particular election that produced Rev. Olumakaiye was held alongside 4 others and it was a free and fair event and by this result He emerged the new Bishop of Lagos, succeeding Rev. Dr. Adebola Ademowo who has already served for 29years as the Bishop of Diocese of Lagos.
For those who don’t know, let’s tell you about, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye who was born on 28th January, 1969. He is 49. He got admitted into Immanuel College of Theology, Ibadan in 1988, where he obtained a Diploma in Religious Studies and Diploma in Theology in 1991 with distinctions. Between 1991 and 1993, he obtained his first degree in Religious studies from the University of Ibadan.
He also got his Master’s degree in Religious studies and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) from the University of Ibadan. The Rt. Rev. Dr. Humphrey B. Olumakaiye was elected Bishop (9 years ago) on May 22, 2009, consecrated on Sunday, July 12, 2009, and enthroned on July 16, 2009, as the first Bishop of Osun North East Diocese.
Bishop Olumakaiye is an excellent scholar and sapient preacher of God’s Word. He is an Evangelist and a Revivalist, very charismatic, dynamic and resourceful. He is a Bishop with a shepherd heart, and a man with a ‘Midas Touch’. He is an astute and unassuming Administrator with an exceptional endowment of transforming array of ideas into reality. He is a builder, who has built several structures in what culminated into an Anglican Village in Otan-Ayegbaju, Osun State.
He has internationally accepted Theological books published by him, they are: (1) Anglican Women; Positions, Privileges and Prospects of Women in the Church (2) Inculturation and Decolonization of Oral and Liturgical Theology of the Anglican Communion, Nigeria. He was the Youth Chaplain for more than a decade in Ilesa Diocese before he was appointed the Youth Work Board Chairman. He is a great lover of youths.
The reception was held at Lagos City Hall. Speaking at the reception was the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Otunba(Mrs) Grace Titilayo Laoye-Tomori who brought a goodwill message from the Executive Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, also appreciated God for the life of the new Bishop and emphasized on his contributions towards the success of Osun state Government.
