Last Wednesday, 7th, August, 2019 the mother of former Ogun East Senator, Prince Buruji Kashamu, lost his mother, Alhaja Wulemotu Ebunlola Kashamu. The news of the death of the 92 year old mother broke in the evening of that day after she had been hospitalised at an undisclosed hospital on Lagos Island. Alhaja Wulemotu Kashamu was buried on Thursday, the next day according to Muslim rights, at Prince Buruji Kashamu’s Ijebu Igbo country home. Buruji Kashamu have not been on talking terms for years.

SENATOR LEKAN MUSTAPHA HONOURS PRINCE BURUJI KASHAMU

For a few years now, both Senator Lekan Mustapha and his kinsman, Buruji Kashamu have not been on talking terms. Both of them usually avoid themselves for many reasons. They had political differences as members of PDP. At some point, both belonged to various camps. There is also the issue of personalities both are tough politicians. Both have strong personalities. Another major factor that made the rift between then got stronger was when Senator Mustapha reunited with Governor Amosun and he was also aiming to contest for Governor but later contested for Senator to represent Ogun East senatorial district where Buruji Kashamu was representing at the time. Not many was heard about the duo as they stayed cleared of each other and was going on with their political life differently.  Shortly before the election, there were news circulating in town that the two have ended their rift and are their friendship is back on track, inside source to both camps also disclosed that all is back to normal with the two.

This was obvious during the burial of Buruji’s mom in Ijebu Igbo, Senator Lekan Mustapha was among dignitaries who came early to support and pay his condolences to Buruji, not minding the fact that they are from different parties, he also stated all through the evebt and he was the last dignitary to leave. After the prayer, they both went inside the house where they were receiving guests and planning ahead the eight days firdaus.

IJEBU IGBO IMAM LEAD PRAYER

Alhaji Abdulakeem Isa, the Noibul Imam of Ijebu Igbo, led the fidau prayers for the deceased, he said the death was inevitable and urged everyone to dedicate their lives to the worship of Allah and live with the purpose of making a positive impact on others.

HON. SYLVESTER SENDS CONDOLENCES MESSAGES

Hon. Sylvester Niyi Abiodun, a member representing Ijebu North State Constituency 1, Ijebu Igbo in his message said the late Mama was an outstanding business woman and a devoted muslim faithful who was the Iya-Suna of Ijebu Igbo, an Islamic post that commands a revered hierarchy.  It is shocking to have received the news of the sudden death of Alhaja Wulemotu Oshodipe-Kashamu, mother of Senator Prince Buruji Kashamu this evening. Hon. Abiodun hereby prayed for the departed Iya Suna’s soul. And also prayed to Allah to give our amiable Senator Kashamu the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

SENATOR LEKAN MUSTAPHA ALSO SENT HIS  CONDOLENCES

The Senator representing the people of Ogun East at the National Assembly, Senator Lekan Mustapha who doubles as the Senate Committee Chairman on State and Local Government Affairs commiserated with Sen Buruji Kashamu on the passage of his mother, Alhaja Wulemotu Oshodipe-Kashamu who died on Wednesday , August 7, 2019. Sen Mustapha in a condolence message he personally signed shortly after the death of the nonagrian said though the death of Alhaja Wulemotu was sudden, the family is consoled in the fact that Mama lived a full-filled life in strict adherence to the Islamic faith. Sen Mustapha prayed God to grant the entire family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

THOSE WHO CAME

The ancient town of Ijebu Igbo was greeted with throngs of powerful power brokers on Thursday, August 8, 2019, as the immediate past lawmaker representing Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly and the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election, Senator Buruji Kashamu, buries his mother, Alhaja Wulemotu Kashamu. who died at the ripe age of 95. The burial ceremony began with the special Fidau prayer, by top Islamic clerics in Ijebu North, as Mama Wulemotu was the Iya Suna of Ijebu Igbo. She was interned at exactly 2p,m according to Islamic rites. The consoling rain that fell immediately after her burial, was said to be a good sign that God has welcomed and accepted mama, who was described as a selfless, kind and loving mother for all.

Former Governor of Imo State and a 9th Senate member, Senator Rochas Okorocha also condoled with former Senator of the 8th Senate from Ogun East, Buruji Kashamu. The articulate governor turned Senator, who was present in Ijebu Igbo during the burial, shocked the Ijebu people as he sends his greetings and condolence in the Yoruba Language. The crowd went wild when he said Eku, Ijoko, Eweso o, Eku Aseinde o (meaning, I greet you all, and I condole with you all).

He added that he came to bury a mother and not to praise her. He shared a few reflections on his perception of the deceased and believed that Mama lives on, as long as there is Buruji Kashamu, who has imbibed the selfless lifestyle of his mother. Despite the brief notice of her death and burial arrangement, the program was well attended by major players in the Ogun State political power brokers. Some of them include; Senator Sefiu Adegbenga Kaka, Senator Lekan Mustapha, Laide Fowosire, Senator Rochas Okorocha, former Imo State Governor, Dr. Reuben Abati, deputy gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in 2019 general election and many more. Royal fathers are also duly represented from every town in Ijebu Igbo; Oloru of Oru, Moyegeso of Ijebu Itele, Kegbe Of Atikori, Sopin of Oke Sopin, Alaporu of Ilaporu, Olokini of Ojo, and Japara of Ibijaparaku.

BURUJI’S MOM WAS A HOME MAKER, GOVERNOR ABIODUN

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun  described that the death of the Mrs Wulemotu Kashamu, mother of immediate past federal lawmaker representing Ogun East Senatorial at the 8th National Assembly, Senator Buruji Kashamu as a great loss to the people of the state. Abiodun, who state this in a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, said that the news of the death of the late mother of Kashamu who died at the age of 96 in Lagos, yesterday, came as shocking to him. The Governor also described Mrs Kashamu as a quintessential woman of virtue who imparted discipline into the lawmaker and his siblings and raised them up to be better persons in the society. He also described the mother of the Senator was a home-maker and a strong pillar of success behind her children and a home maker, saying” no matter the age, the loss of one’s mom is bound to be painful and emotionally distressing”.

INTERMENT WAS A PRIVATE AFFAIRS

When mama’s body arrived Ijebu Igbo from Lagos, she was brought out for the final Muslims praying rights, afterwards she was taken to one of the chalets building for internment. The internment was witness by children and grandchildren were present at the grave side as everyone was asked to wait at the main compound till they return.

WHY BURUJI’S ANNUAL ILEYA PARTY WAS CANCELLED THIS YEAR

To honor Alhaja Wulemotu Kashamu,  the annual Ileya party where Prince Buruji Kashamu hosts the whole of Ijebu Igbo and dignitaries from in and outside Ogun State was cancelled. The full celebration will be held during the eight days fidau prayer.
