•How He Plans To Celebrate It
Senator Sefiu Adegbenga Kala will be 70 in a few days’ time. But this man does not look it. He does not look that far gone in age. Yet, he was born on 14th May 1952. But he has managed to keep his pencil-slim figure, over the years.
For those who still can’t catch the drift, let’s tell you about this seasoned politician who has had a distinguished career in Ogun politics. At various times, he has been a Commissioner, Deputy Governor, Senator and now an Elder statesman. He was the elected Senator for Ogun East in the 2011 General elections, running on the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) platform till 2015. He was preceded by Senator Ramoni Mustapha and succeeded by late Senator Buruji Kashamu.
Before this, he was Deputy Governor of Ogun State from 1999 to 2003, during the governorship of Gov. Olusegun Osoba.
How does he plan to celebrate his 70th? We can tell you. He has set up a Birthday Committee, which is planning the main activities marking his 70th birthday. It will start on Friday, 13th May 2022 with the formal handing over of a 200-seater hall called The Adebisi Idiat Kaka auditorium at the Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State. That will be in the morning. A Special Prayer and Jumat Service will follow at the Ijebu-Igbo Central Mosque, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.
On the next day, Saturday, 14th May, 2022 there will be a Special Birthday Lecture titled Overview Of Nigeria’s Power Sector: Past, Present & Future to the delivered by Engr. Adebisi Abayomi, retired Director, Renewable Energy & Rural Power Access. After that will come a Book Presentation with the title His Boundless Benevolence All The Way. The book is to be reviewed by Prof. (Mrs.) Bola Akeredolu-Ale, former DVC, FUNAAB. All these events will take place at Omo-Ilu Event Centre, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State. Many dignitaries like the Awujale, Ogun State Governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Afenifere Leader, Papa Ayo Adebanjo have all been invited to grace the event.
Though he will be 70 in a few days’ time, Senator Gbenga Kaka does not look it in any way. He looks good for his new age.
Over the years, he has been able to maintain his pencil-slim frame. He has also maintained his athletic build. He does not use a walking stick.
He does not need glasses to read. His mental faculty is okay and his oratorical power is resoundingly sound. He thinks scientifically, and brings in logic all the time. And he is very deep in his appreciation of life.
This seasoned politician also plays politics of love and kindness.
He is friends with everybody in politics. He is very accomodating to all.
And he is one of the politicians who have the 2nd address. He has successful poultry, which is a clear leader in that sector. And has successfully combined playing politics and running his business.
Even in politics, he is an accomplished politician who served society in many capacities, as Commissioner, Deputy Governor and Senator.
He is not only an Elder statesman, he is a party elder, party chieftain who is still very, very active within Ogun APC. He is also a respected community leader who is always called upon to help resolve knotty communal matters.
Last week, City People stormed Ijebu-Igbo, his home town to get this soft-spoken distinguished Nigerian to grant us his 70th birthday interview. We wanted to know a lot about him. For instance, there are rumours that he may be running for the Ogun East Senate election.
This and many other questions were the issues we wanted him to respond to.
By the time the 1-hour interview was over, we found Senator Kaka to be a man content with the little God has blessed him with. He still lives in the same house he has lived in for very many years.
How does he feel as he prepares for his 70th birthday we asked him? “I feel happy. I remain contented.
How does it feel to be 70? How does he feel as he approaches 70 “I remain grateful to God? It’s been a pleasant surprise that I am 70 when I say this I always reflect on my past which was full of challenges. But here I am. This is Almighty God for me to overcome a lot. I say thank you to God for making it possible, I give gratitude to God. I am appreciative of God’s benevolence. This is something I didn’t expect.
What are the lessons life has taught him? “The first is to be faithful to God. And to be patient. Patience. The other lesson is Hardwork which of course, I learnt from my parents. My father passed at the age of 52 when I was 16 with 6 siblings from my mother and others, from my half brothers and sister.
I learnt a lot, that Hope must not be lost and if one remains faithful to God, one can actually swim in the ocean of life.
Today, I remain to glorify God for the various wonders, He had made possible in my life, my siblings, my immediate family, extended family, my friends, my bosses and even my followers. It has been a wonderful experience, I can only remain grateful to all of them in the scaling of the hurdles of life”.
