SIJU ILUYOMADE’s Mum Celebrates 90th Birthday

It was a big and classy birthday party last Monday, 2nd October when the children and family members of Mrs. Henrietta Bamidele Adejumo celebrated her 90th birthday. There was a Thanksgiving Service at the Cathedral Church of Christ. And reception was at Eko Hotel. She is the mother of Siju Iluyomade.

Mama Henrietta Bamidele Adejumo was born in Ogidi, Anambra State, Nigeria on October, 2, 1933. She is a visionary and certified retired Nurse and Midwife, boasting extensive experience in both private and public nursing sectors. Henrietta was among a group of Nigerian nurses in the United Kingdom who returned home in the early 60s, running the NGO, Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), a leading advocate of sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in Nigeria. It was founded in response to pressing reproductive related problems such as unwanted pregnancies, child abandonment, and unsafe abortion. Her contributions to the organisation promoted good parenthood, and quality health for women. Henrietta took her campaigns and interventions to the marketplace, thereby reducing the maternal and child mortality ratio.

Throughout her career, Mama Henrietta has demonstrated the following skills and competencies: · Sound Judgment · Emotional Intelligence · Analytical Ability · Persuasiveness · Excellent Communication · Strong Work Ethic.

Her professional journey includes notable roles and achievements: · Certified Nurse and Midwife in England and Wales, United Kingdom (1989 – 1999): She served as a State Registered Nurse on an ad-hoc/locum basis at several hospitals in London and Greater London, including Guy’s and St. Thomas Hospital, King’s College Hospital, Royal Free Hospital, and Royal London Hospital · Certified Nurse at Berec Nigeria Limited, Nigeria (1969 – 1989); Henrietta was appointed the first Senior Nursing Sister/Welfare Officer at Berec Nigeria Limited. In this capacity, she established the company’s first Industrial Clinic and served with distinction until her retirement at a Senior Management level in 1989.

  • Certified Nurse at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos (1963 -1969): Upon returning to Nigeria, Henrietta worked at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for seven years, staying at the forefront of nursing knowledge and development.

In addition to her nursing career, Mama Henrietta founded Adebah Enterprises in Nigeria in 2000, successfully producing T-shirts to address local market demands after her retirement. The hardworking Henrietta is noted for her gesture in providing healthcare centres and exceptional healthcare services in factories during her active days.

Henrietta’s educational background and qualifications include: • St. Monica’s Anglican Girl’s Secondary School, Onitsha • Nursing Training at the Missionary Hospital, Onitsha • SRN London from The Metropolitan Hospital, London • SCM London from Midwifery Plaistow Maternity Hospital, London, and Luton Maternity Hospital, Bedfordshire.

Her extensive service at the Cathedral Church of Christ Marina Lagos spans back to 1963. Alongside her family, she has been an active member of various societies and care ministries, including: • Cathedral Ladies Armour Bearer, where she served as Assistant Secretary, Secretary, Welfare Officer, and eventually Chairman from 2010 to 2015 • Member of the Girl’s Brigade • Member of the Mother’s Union • Member of the Prison Welfare Ministry · Member of the Elders’ Group and Care Ministry · Patroness of the Ladies League · Volunteer at the Cathedral Clinic, where she played a pivotal role in its establishment and initial operation, working alongside esteemed colleagues such as Dr Olu Asekun, Dr Soji Bewaji, Mrs Doyin Otuyalo,

Mrs Bisi Peters, Chief Bayo Ogunyemi, and Mrs Yeside Coker · She is the Life President of the Cathedral Ladies Armour Bearers · She holds the Cathedral Church of Christ Highest Honours. CPA.

She is an active volunteer, with exceptional communication skills, dedicating her expertise “and knowledge to the growth and development of various societies and ministries. Mama Henrietta is a devoted member of the Cathedral Church of Christ in Marina, Lagos, and also pursues her private interests, including reading and sewing.

She is a mother of 5 children – SIJU .. SEGUN.. LANRE.. DEMOLA .. LANDE – All Adejumo’s and many grandchildren, including 2 sets of twins – 2 girls and 2 boys. She is a mother indeed. We rise and call her blessed!
