LASEMA responded to distress calls at 1.33am at Balogun Market, Broad Street, Lagos Island, concerning the above incident and upon arrival at the scene of the incident, a fire outbreak involving some shops in the ground floor of a three-storey building was encountered.
The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained. Fortunately, no casualty was involved in the incident.
The Agency’s response team alongside two Lagos State fire service trucks, two LRU fire trucks and Police are presently at the incident working together to subdue the inferno.
Further to the activities of Lagos State Emergency Agency and collaborative efforts of Lasema elite fire, Lagos fire, Federal fire, and UBA fire with other secondary stakeholders; the fire that started around 1 am had been curtailed and localised within the area.
Presently, Lasema and other responders are moving closer to the affected structure for total elimination of the fire.
However, the challenge has been that the access roads are blocked due to the heavy presence of shops that have made it impossible for pedestrians.
Hence, Lasema shall be moving in with the Agency Heavy Excavator for clearing which will pave the way for the total elimination of the fire.
Finally, it’s important to stress that concerted efforts are ongoing to sustain the localisation of the fire pending the arrival of the Excavator.
