43-year-old man, Sola Asaolu Ezekiel, has escaped death and he’s at large after his Lagos home was attacked by suspected northern Islamist men
The attack happened on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at Oke Ishagun, Command, Ipaja, Lagos.
It was gathered that Sola Asaolu’s resident was stormed by armed men in long apparel with fierce looks, who vandalized the property gate to gain entrance into the house, but Sola had escaped through another route before they gained entrance.
Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dolapo Badmus said he was not aware of the attack, but a neighbour, David Ajunuma, who spoke to Vanguard news, confirmed the attack, saying it was still like a dream to him.
David, who was Sola Asaolu’s neighbour, witnessed the attack and told newsmen that the attack was pre-meditated and was targeted at Sola.
“As I speak, I’m still trying to piece together the details of what happened. It happened in the afternoon,” an eyewitness told newsmen
“The men came in the bus and were carrying back sacks. Immediately they came out of the bus, they pointed at Mr Sola’s house and began to move in the direction. I called his number and he picked up but did not talk.
“After some time, the men gained entrance into the apartment in a broad daylight and no one could even come to rescue. I thought they got him because of the noise coming out of his apartment. Other neighbours locked themselves inside and no one intervened.
“Mr Sola Asaolu narrowly escaped being murdered in cold blood this afternoon. I saw how one of the Islamist looking men targeted and shoot at his front door to gain entrance.
“A couple of hours after they have left, everybody came out from their houses to ascertain what had happened but Mr Sola was nowhere to be found. I saw his phone lying on the floor and the window of his room was broken. So we knew he’s escaped before those men gained entrance.
Another neighbour of Sola Asaolu who spoke to Citypeople news hinted that Sola’ has been complaining about several calls he’s been getting over his statement during his father’s burial.
Recall that sixteen people are reported to have been killed by suspected armed bandits in an attack on Agage community of Gwer West Local Government Area in Benue State in March. One of the causality was Sola Asaolu’s father.
While burying his father on 4th March 2019, Sola had accused the northern leaders of supporting Boko Haram, Herdsmen and bandits, and has aligned with the Separatists movements of Yoruba nation and Biafra. He was quoted to have said, “The government have not done anything to save our families because the killers are their people. They are Hausas and Fulanis who are spread over West Africa. My fathers; blood is upon this government. I assure you that this country will know no peace until we move out of this country as southerners; let the Igbos leave and let the Yoruba leave. We don’t want One Nigeria anymore”, Sola Asaolu had stated.
As of the time of filing this report, Sola Asaolu’s family has not seen or heard from him. His wife, who was traced to a church in Ogun State where both couple resided temporarily gave an account of how she got the news..
“I had gone to pick my children from school that fateful when I got a call from my husband. “He sounded so distressed and scared. He told me not to come and suddenly stopped talking. I kept crying and calling his name from the phone but there was no reply and the phone was still on. We had to move to church here in Ogun state since then, but he has been running from one place to the other, because he’s not sure who is still after his life.”, she said
DSP Dolapo Badmubs, the Public Relations Officer of the Police in Lagos said she would get back with details once she gets the brief.
A subsequent visit to Abosede Asaolu reveals that the woman and her kids have left the church to an unknown location, out of fear, while Mr Sola has gone off the radar.
