Spectrum Beauty Academy Lagos Nigeria, held its 2019 convocation ceremony , amid pomp and pageantry. The event which held at the institution’s premises had in attendance parents , invited guests, guest speakers and very important personnel who have made a mark in the beauty industry sector.
A welcome note address was delivered by the class of 2019 student’s speaker, Stephanie Okwu, and she congratulated her graduating colleagues for their doggedness , perseverance and patience in reaching a great milestone whilst also welcoming guests and speakers to the occasion.
Esthetics practitioner and specialist Mrs Jumai Lagun, was the first guest speaker of the day and she advised the graduands to be steadfast and industrious in their dealings with clients as it will help them grow fast in the industry.
Also speaking at the event , the CEO of Compass Global Business and founder of Serah’s Beauty Secrets international , Mrs Tokunbo Chiedu gave tips and guidelines in the beauty industry to the graduands. She advised graduands to know exactly what they want to do with their certificate saying that the beauty industry has got enormous potentials.
She posited that, Nigeria beauty industry is growing very fast as more Nigerians are spending millions on beauty.
In her words ‘’ Nigerians are now spending millions of naira on beauty and the fresh graduates should try and capitalize on that so as to make a big mark in the sector’’
She added that graduands should build their personal brand as that will go a long way in making them distinct in an industry that may later get saturated.
However, She advised graduands not to wait till they get a loan or save millions moving venturing fully into the business, saying they can start little and build up gradually. She told them to also build and maintain relationships as that is very key for survival.
She urged them not to stop learning , saying that practitioners in the beauty sector have to continue learning and improve in order to move with the trend so as to be on top of their games.
A representative of APSMAN , a body responsible for licensing and regulating the activities of beauticians in the country , Mrs Matilda spoke on how the body has been fighting quackery in the industry, she urged the graduands to join APSMAN so that they can be licensed as the body only work with licensed members.
She said , APSMAN is the only professional body recognized by the federal government of Nigeria in working and regulating the activities of beauticians in the country.
‘”APSMAN is not just recognized in Nigeria only, it has a global presence too’’. She said.
Mrs Matilda urged the graduands to continue learning and keep relationships with colleagues as it goes along way in getting jobs and contracts.
Graduands who excelled at various courses during their stay in academy were given awards, Nwosu Roseline emerged as the best in Cosmetology class , Nwabia Racheal came out tops in Esthetics while the overall best student award went to Onyinyechi Obasi.
The three awardees got plaques and cash prizes of 200,000 naira respectively and offered scholarships for further studies at the institution.
However, there were side attractions as class of 2020 engaged in modeling , few of them cat walked on the green carpet at the venue as a way of showcasing what Spectrum Beauty Academy stands for and also a mark of sending off their immediate senior colleagues.
The academy’s cosmetology tutor who is a citizen of Tanzania, Reuben Mwanzi, was full of praises for the 2019 Class saying that they all showed good examples during their academic periods in the institution.
He advised them to make judicious use of what they must have learnt in class to help grow the beauty industry.
The founder of Bnatural Spa and proprietress of Spectrum Beauty Academy , Mrs Pamela Olatunji advised graduands to be steadfast and serious as they step in as practitioners in the industry.
She said the academy is always opened to them for consultations and further trainings if the need arises.
She advised them to always keep in touch with the academy as they can always work together regardless of wherever they are based.
Mrs Pamela thanked the class of 2019 for being an exemplar set, saying she had no course to regret ever working with them .
She added that the sky would be their limit judging on their comportment ,seriousness and performances whilst studying at the academy.
She however urged them not to forget their root as she looks forward to working with them in the nearest future
