•City People Reveals His Manifesto
Osun State has been in existence for about thirty-one (31) years now. The State had about four (4) Military Administrators over a period of eight (8) years while the rest of the years were under the democratic dispensation. It implies that democracy has had its roots in the State for about 22 years. Osun State was part of the Old Oyo State some most of its take infrastructures were inherited from the Government of Oyo State. Since creation, Osun State has had increased in population currently at about 5,000,000 people and commercial activities have taken the center stage in most the urban towns and cities. The State is blessed with agricultural and mineral resources. Despite these huge potentials of the State, the socio-economic conditions of Osun State are at variance with its human and natural endowments. The level of poverty and the quality of life stand in contrast to the huge untapped wealth of the State.
The State has attracted several billions of naira from the federation accounts over the years yet the per capital debt burden of the state is one of the highest in the Country. The implications of this are that the governance of the State requires new thinking, new approach and departure from economic conservatism to a more pragmatic orientation. The purpose of governance is to provide opportunities for people to realize their best potentials, but the gloomy picture of poverty written in all spheres of life in the State calls for urgent and
timely interventions. There is a thirst for development among the people. Osun people are generally industrious and willing to make sacrifice for change but without the requisite leadership nothing much could be achieved.
It is very clear from the democratic experience spanning over 20 years that there is a leadership gap in the administration of the State. The very many dysfunctional social economic outlooks of the State are only indicative of one thing – lack of leadership. Transformation leadership is what can change the gory state of Osun and turn the fledging economy round with creative and strategic thinking. The increasing number of out-school children, the non-functional health systems, the low pass rate among students across all tier of education, the high unemployment rate, increasing wave of crime, disoriented civil service, neglected pensioners, lack of policies and visions are symptoms of failed leadership.
What is articulated and presented in this document are the expositions of the IDERA DE vision of the candidacy of DR AKIN OGUNBIYI that defines the possibilities of the emergence of a new Osun State that provides opportunities for all to achieve the best potentials.
The IDERA DE Pillars provides a holistic solution to every aspect of governance as they affect directly the wellbeing of Osun people. While not exhaustive, yet it serves as a robust foundation of developmental possibilities.
It is possible to kick start the wheel of progress by providing directions, visions and policy that will ultimately lead to the complete emancipation of the people, but this can only be done through decisive governance and collective will of the people. One thing is sure, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi represents a new frontier of development for Osun State and the ideas of what can be achieved by an individual given the right impetus and development. This winning formula of accelerated development is what Osun State needs today before it sinks further into the abyss of poverty and relegation among the comity of States.
A New Osun is POSSIBLE…!
