  • How The 1974 Set Marked The 50th Anniversary

Saturday 20th January, 2024 was a day of celebration for members of the 1974 set of The Apostolic Church Grammar School, Orishigun-Ketu, Lagos as the old students marked the 50th anniversary of them leaving their alma mater for good. The celebration was held in grand style as members and their invited guests were hosted at the Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The group of old students has also done well in putting together a N50 Million Fundraiser as a way of supporting the school which imbibed so much in them.

Delivering the welcome address, the Chairman of the 1974 set of the school, Professor Peter N. Kalu spoke about the essence of the dayโ€™s occasion which is to celebrate โ€œthe memories we made, the friendship we forged, and achievement we accomplished during and after our time at our dear schoolโ€.

He quickly recollected the many legacies the school had imbibed in them and today they are being grateful for.  He also said the set saw the need for them to care for each other and their beloved alma mater. Meanwhile, he identified the many challenges facing the school, part of which are facility upgrade, enhanced curriculum, expanded programmes and support for staff and students. He sought the support of his mates to generously contribute immensely in the course of helping meet up with the demands of the 21st century.

As he urged them to show the school how much they care, he said; โ€œNo matter how big or small, every contribution counts. Every Naira makes a difference and every gesture shows our appreciationโ€.

Notable among the distinguished guests present at the occasion are President of TACGSOSA, Barrister Solomon O. Alabi; Immediate past chairman of TACGSOSA, Elder Gbenga Onayemi; Guest Speaker, Mr. Isaac Babalola; Chief Launchers, Barr. Olumuyiwa Aduroja and his wife, Mrs. Aderonke Aduroja; Co-Chief Launchers, Engineer Shola Taylor and Mr. Leke Ogunlewe. A minute of silence was observed for the departed colleagues of the great set as they remembered for good while they prayed that the departed all have eternal rest.

The fund-raising exercise was done in a special way as those present at the venue and members who could not attend the event due to one reason or the other donate hugely to the course. The launchers also gave an impressive donation which was well commended.

The ceremony continued amidst fun fare laced with classic music courtesy DJ Anonymous, a young female disk jockey who took total charge of the wheel dolling out lovely collections of oldies to the admiration of the entire hall. Members of the 1974 set were given special recognition as they were mentioned one after the other to receive their award.  Part of the celebration was presentation of awards to distinguished members of the โ€™74 set and others present.
