by Reporter

The sleepy town of Isanlu, headquarters of Yagba East in Kogi State will receive an unprecedented number of distinguished personalities from all over the world this weekend as they descend on the town to participate in a grand obsequies for the late Mrs. Comfort Tunde Sheidu, nee Balogun.

The home going journey for Mama, as she was fondly called by all she was Mama to, outside her six biological children, began on Thursday, January 30, 2025 with a Service of Songs at the Grand Ballroom, Lagos Oriental Hotel. Over 1,000 guests turned out in resplendent attires in shades of purple which was the colour of the day.

Mrs. Sheidu was the mother of Adebola, co-founder of Brains and Hammers Limited, one of Nigeria’s leading real estate companies.  His older brother, Abubakar and another sibling, Kayode;  are co-owners of Black Qoral Concepts Limited.  Adebola and Abubakar are very successful lawyers. Khadija retired from the Nigeria Ports Authority as a General Manager. Her other children, Yinka and Aliyu are equally pacesetters in their different callings.  Mama was born on June  10,  1941, in Isanlu Makuku. She qualified and practised as a Nurse,  rising to the position of Matron. She was the spouse of the late AIG Ahmadu Sheidu (retd.). Sadly, she passed on December 29, 2024, at 83 years.

The choice of Isanlu as her final resting place is to honour her wishes to be buried among her people.  Mama loved her people of Isanlu. She referred to and related to them all as brothers and sisters.  She lived an active life as a Nurse, Nursing Sister and Matron for 35 years. After retirement from service,  she devoted her time and energy to the church and community.

She was a devout Christian. Having been brought up in the ECWA Church,  she later worshipped keenly in the Redeemed Christian Church of God.   She was very vibrant and energetic. Till her death, she moved freely without any infirmity and only required glasses for reading.  She was very sharp and alert and loved her fashion.   Mama was a mother to all in every place she was. She was quick to give advice,  particularly relating to medicine, care and ailments.   She paid a lot of attention to details and was always quick to remind her children of dates, events and past occasions with so much accuracy that continually stunned all who had the pleasure of knowing her.  She never forgot a face or a name and radiated so much warmth.
