- FERTILITY EXPERT, DR. ABAYOMI AJAYI
April is a special month set aside, worldwide to create awareness about Adenomyosis, a health condition which is prevalent among women over 40 years of age and affects their quality of life. Adenomyosis occurs when the tissue that normally lines the uterus grows into the muscular wall of the uterus. The displaced tissue continues to act normally; thickening, breaking down and bleeding, during each menstrual cycle.
Lagos based fertility expert and MD/CEO of Nordica Fertility Centre, Dr. Abayomi Ajayi has joined the world in creating awareness about Adenomyosis. He stressed the need to intensify effort on spreading the knowledge to the public, most especially among medical practitioners who are usually the first port of call for patients seeking treatment.
He said many media practitioners often mistaken Adenomyosis for fibroid because they share similar symptoms and as a result, patients are wrongly diagnosed and treated, exposing them to more risk of infertility.
The renowned fertility expert, talked about how the advent of modern technology such as the magnetic Resonance Imaging, MRI, machines have been very helpful in diagnosing Adenomyosis, which was not the case some years back.
He described the treatment options available for Adenomyosis, both surgical and non-surgical. He however advised and recommended patients to seek treatment through HIFU, High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, as a very safe and reliable method.
Meanwhile, Ajayi advised patients who still want to get pregnant and have their babies to be wary of using drugs to treat Adenomyosis as it could cause them more harm than good, affecting their fertility process.
Dr. Abayomi Ajayi is a force to reckon with in fertility health care delivery in Nigeria. He is a fertility expert who is highly revered for doing a lot in educating the public on how best they can sustain their fertility health.
