The Other Side Of PATIENCE OZOKWOR Revealed!
Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama-G is a veteran musician, fashion designer, gospel singer, and actress. She has starred in many roles but many would always remember her for the wicked roles she has always acted in. She was born in the village of Amaobo, Ngwo in Enugu State.
On May 20, 2023, she was awarded the Merit Award Winner at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, AMVCA, an award which is given to veterans that have contributed immensely to the industry. In her acceptance speech, she thanked God for her life, the life of her family, and where the Lord has brought her since she started acting many years ago. She also took to Instagram to thank her fans and also revealed how her children made significant sacrifices for her career.
According to Mama G, she relied on her talent, humility, word of mouth, and trust because there was absence of social media when she began her acting career. She wrote, “Lifetime Achievement Award” When we started in the industry, there was no social media and so many other luxuries we enjoy now. Progress was completely dependent on your talent, humility, word of mouth, and trust. “I appreciate my colleagues who work tirelessly and oftentimes without recognition. “I appreciate my family who have always surrounded me with love and acceptance. My children sacrificed a lot and stayed long periods without a mother,” she said.
She added that at some point, her daughter became her PA and Associate Manager.
Many people often think that Mama G loves acting in a wicked role because she could be one, but many were shocked when she revealed that she was just acting the roles she was presented with. Some years back in an interview, she was confronted with the question of her wicked roles in movies, she said: “I am highly romantic o! If I am in love with you, you will know; I can’t hide it. Everybody around will know I am in love with you. So I don’t go jumping from one man to the other but if I have feelings for you, everybody around will know that you are the man.
“All the same, because I don’t kiss in movies doesn’t mean that if such occasions come up, I wouldn’t have done something like that but God just shut that side for me and I never had any reason to kiss somebody. You know, I am always on the cantankerous side. Such people don’t kiss and they don’t do romance. The kind of roles I play actually help me not to get to all that,” she said.
However, Charles Inojie at the AMVCA while talking about the good things she has done and why she deserves the award she won, revealed that Mama G has an apartment where she feeds children, which some of her colleagues make jokes about by calling it Mama G foundation. Meanwhile, in an interview with the Punch in 2019, she gave reasons why she didn’t remarry after the death of her husband.
She said there was a time she wanted to remarry but that her children prevented her from doing so., adding that “They are all grown now. They said if they were young, they wouldn’t have objected. Now that they are grown, they say they will be my husband and they have been trying. The only thing they don’t do is go to bed with me. They said that their friends would laugh at them that their mother abandoned them, but I didn’t see it that way.
“It really brought problems. I wanted to remarry but my sister and other relations came and said that I should concede to them and I accepted but with the condition that they would also listen to me anytime I tell them to stop being friends with any of their friends that I don’t like and they agreed. So we have been managing one another.”
On her regrets in life, Ozokwor said “The only regret I have in life is that I wasn’t allowed to marry the man of my choice. That is it, but I was able to cope. I had suitors, I was going to choose one among them but my parents said that I would marry their choice. If they had allowed me, I would have loved to make my choice,” she concluded.
This highly reverred veteran actress has a foundation she calls WINDE’S. She has also become very religious and now plays very active roles in the church she attends.
