Music star, Kizz Daniel has become a global phenomenon and it is simply amazing that his music has put the Nigerian entertainment industry as a whole on the global stage with his numerous hit songs back to back. Kiss Daniel’s rise to stardom was a quick one. The Afro Pop singer, who now goes by the name Kizz Daniel, has earned his spot as one of Nigeria’s top music stars. He has only been in the music business professionally for 7 years and already has several number-one hit songs under his belt.
Kizz Daniel’s walk to fame will also not be complete without mentioning the City People Media Group. He has been a recipient of City People major awards such as Music Artist of the Year (Male) in 2016 with other couple of nominations for big categories. Shortly after Kizz Daniel released his single Woju in 2014, it became an instant hit. Everyone started enjoying the track which topped many music chats for weeks. It was shortly after the release of Woju in 2014 that City People had a fashion show celebrating the iconic designer, Ejiro Amos Tafiri in Victoria Island in year 2014 where Kizz Daniel came to support the brand, as well as the show and performed the hit song. This was one of the biggest, if not the first biggest platform Kizz Daniel performed his Woju song to the admiration of all. It was an evening of fun where his performance went viral and inturn gave his popularity a big boost. At the event, Kizz Daniel was showcased to the audience and even those who had not seen him before had a glimpse of who Kizz Daniel was. This was made possible by his close associate and manager, Tumi Lawrence.
Many years after the show, Kizz Daniel proved beyond doubt that his music has come to stay and remains as steadfast to keep pushing his music to the world and this he has achieved in just 7 years. His music has readily become a virus penetrating the whole system of everyone who listens to his songs.
Kizz Daniel loved singing from a young age, but he only pursued his music full-time after completing his university studies.
Back to back, the world has not rested with his hit songs especially Daniel’s 2022 hit song ‘Buga’ with Tekno which is the most googled song in Nigeria.
Since its release, ‘Buga’ has broken several records. The dance challenge on Tiktok and Instagram helped people enjoy the little more than three-minute song better, which has increased its popularity.
The song has caught the attention of both young and older demographics and it has also enjoyed domestic and international acceptance. Notable personalities that have danced to the song include Liberian President, George Weah and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and several others.
‘Buga’ was released on 3rd May 2022, it became the most popular song in Nigeria and was the most Shazamed song in the world and the song also held the number one position in over ten countries on the Apple Music Charts. Its position as the most Googled song in Nigeria in the first half of 2022 highlights its wide reach and is immutable proof of its status. Kizz Daniel is set to perform this global hit track ‘Buga’ at the 2022 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Qatar in few weeks.
The colourful video of the song, directed by TG Omori, was shot in a carnival-like setting, displaying various countries’ flags. Since its release, it has garnered over 30 million views.
The music video also features famous skit maker, Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, best known with his Oga Sabinus moniker. The skit maker won the best online content at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. After the success of his hit son, ‘Buga’, few weeks back, he dropped another banger, chart topping single, Cough (Odo) which is readily becoming a global phenomenon again.
The ‘Buga singer started his music career in 2013 when he signed a record deal with G-Worldwide Entertainment. He left the label following a well-publicised contract dispute and court case. The new release has already achieved massive hype as number one on the Top 100 Nigeria Apple Music chart in less than 48 hours on social media and airwaves.
The much anticipated love song has kept thousands of fans hailing Vado D Great for dropping another soon-to-become world anthem, as the new song begins with an actual cough and lyrics stating, “I wanna flex my love,” alongside hit jams.
His late father supported his dream of becoming a singer but encouraged him to complete his education when he started.When the time came for Kizz Daniel to record his very first song, his father, who was a painter and lecturer, gave him ¦ 100 000.
“My music journey has not been a smooth one, it has always been this up and down. It started when I was really young, around 7, 8 or 9. I started scribbling down lyrics and then my dad noticed that I do that a lot… From 13, 14, I could actually sing,” revealed Kizz Daniel, recalling how his talent developed.
Born on May 1, 1994, he grew up in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The 25-year-old has achieved more in his short career than most achieve in their lifetime. With his real name, Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, Kizz Daniel’s professional music career kicked-off while he was a student at the Federal University of Agriculture. He was studying Water Resources Management and Agrometeorology at the time. The Afro Pop singer eventually completed his degree in 2013 and gave his music career his full attention. Kizz Daniel’s 2014 single, Woju, was an instant hit. The song became one of Nigeria’s biggest tracks of the year and was nominated for “Hottest Single Of The Year” and the Nigeria Entertainment Awards.
Kizz Daniel released his debut album, New Era, in May 2016. The offering won The Headies award for “Album of the Year”. After leaving G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2017, Kizz started his own record label, Fly Boy Inc. He released his second album, No Bad Songz, under his new label in late 2018.
Several of Kizz Daniel’s songs have become hits in many parts of Africa. The remix for his hit single, Woju, featured Davido and Tiwa Savage. Kizz Daniel also worked with American DJ Diplo on Iwek – one of the tracks on his second studio album. Nasty C joined Kizz Daniel on Ghetto while Diamond Platnumz featured on Tere. Some of Kizz Daniel’s other hit songs include Yeba, Laye, 4Dayz, Sofa, No Days, Good Time, Kiss Me and For You featuring Wizkid.
Kizz Daniel’s songs with Davido have also been a huge success. Their 2018 collaboration, One Ticket, trended in Nigeria shortly after its release. The music video for the song has been watched over 25 million times since its release on YouTube in November 2018.
Kizz Daniel and Davido’s first collaboration on the Woju remix was also a big hit. The track history when the original and remix featured on MTV Base’s Official Naija Top 10 at number one and two respectively. Kizz Daniel’s 2016 single, Mama, remains one of his biggest hits to date. The song was produced by Young John. The video has been watched more than 27 million times on YouTube.The singer made headlines in 2018 when he bought his brother his own set of wheels – a Dodge Challenger, bought his second home in 2018 and his luxury cars, Mercedes Benz and Bentley.
