Have you noticed the new ways celebrities now entertain their fans or followers during this Lockdown period on Instagram and other social media platforms? Many celebrities engaged in several activities just to maintain their celebrity status and also to remain relevant in these trying times. Many of them have suddenly become comedians just to keep their fans glued to their pages.
Over the years, many of these celebrities have made good use of the Instagram and other Social media platform such as Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and the new TikTok applications to promote their talents and creativity; some of them have commanded such great increased numbers of followers that they are raking in huge cash by promoting goods and services as a brand influencer.
Of course, social media has changed the order of business in Nigeria, not just in the entertainment industry bust across all sectors. A huge number of celebrities have also become famous through the aid of various social media platforms. Many have gained acronyms Instagram celebrities. Snapchat, Twitter and Tiktok celebrities. These celebrities are now raking in both money and fame by just posting on their social media platforms.
However, It’s been so difficult for many of them to live their normal life because of the wake of the global CoronaVirus( COVID 19) pandemic which is spreading across the globe.
Need it be said that the effect of the pandemic thus far has affected every individual, Homes, States, Countries and continents at large especially with the Total Lockdown which has restricted everyone from performing their day to day activities.
In other to remain relevant and also not to loose their fan base, a lot of them now do what they call GIVEAWAY. This may not sound new because some of them have been known to be givers to the needy before the Lockdown but the case is different now, it is very difficult to see a celebrity on Instagram that isn’t doing GIVEAWAY. They give out cash to their followers/fans to fend for their need during the Lockdown period. The act of giving them money has also helped to grow more followers because people are always glued to their page in anticipation for this cash giveaway. Some of them do it every day while some do it once or twice a week, depending on how they get sponsors.
Another twist to the Giveaway pattern is what is called the Exercise challenge where they challenge their fans to join their live videos on Instagram and other platforms as they keep fit during this Lockdown. Some also give out Relief Packages to people, this doesn’t have to be their fans only. They go out to different communities to give out foodstuffs to people. Some of them do live videos while doing this while some post their activities on their pages. A lot of them have also suddenly become comedians like we said earlier, they now post different skit on their page to entertain their followers.
The kitchen challenge is also not left out as fans show their cooking skills by cooking different delicacies and posting on their social media platforms. We have different Household challenges to men just a few. All these are to ensure that fans are fully entertained and relaxed while we all stay safe and pray that the Convic19 Pandemic comes to an end as soon as possible.
