The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA) held at the Eko Hotels and Suites Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday 14th, 2020. Some of Nollywood big names and celebrities showed up in grand style for the AMVCA red carpet and the award ceremony proper.
The event witnessed a lot of Nigerian celebrities making several attention-grabbing appearances on the red carpet, all thanks to the creative stylists and glam teams behind their looks.
This stylists really went out of the box, to create extraordinary fashion statements for their clients. There were so many of these outstanding stylists City People Senior Showbiz Reporter Biodun Alao brings you 10 top fashion designers that made statements at the just concluded AMVCA7.
TOYIN LAWANI
Toyin Lawani designed outfits for 10 celebrities for the just concluded AMVCA 7. Outfits for the Award proper and after party outfits. She designed for celebrities like Toyin Abraham, who won Best Actress for AMVCA7. She designed for gorgeous and ageless Iyabo Ojo and her two children Priscilla and Felix. Big Brother Naija Housemates, were not left behind. She designed for Ifunada, Omoshola, Khloe, she equally designed a special outfit for herself and her cute son Lord Maine.
Toyin Lawani is a gorgeous fashion stylist and entrepreneur born from a rich and prestigious family and people often describe her as Jack of all trade, as she controls over 20 successful businesses. She is the CEO and creative director of Tiannah’s Place Empire and also the founder of the fashion Academy. Tiannah’s styling fashion Academy in Nigeria. She has handled big time projects in Nigeria and has won several awards home and abroad for her remarkable contribution to the fashion industry in Nigeria.
MEDLIN BOSS
Mimi Linda Yina, is the brain behind Medlin Couture and Homes, an outfit which styles many celebrities in Nigeria and beyond. The brand started some years ago when Mimi was still in School, but didn’t take shape fully until 2009. The brand didn’t take her the to the top of the ladder she has now found itself. It took a step in time by mounting the stairs, savouring challenges that come with the terrain, according to pretty Mimi.
She has designed for notable celebrities in the society and was among the designers that made headlines at the AMVCA7, as she designed beautiful outfits for screen diva Funke Akindele and her husband JJC Skillz, Helen Paul. Also BB 9ja Alex and Tv girl Nancy Isime were styled by the beautiful Medlin boss, Mimi Linda Yina.
LUMINEE COUTURE
Abiodun Shade Sandra is the C.E.O of Anjy Luminee Couture, a highly celebrated designer, that has designed for lots of celebrities in Nigeria, such as Ooni’s wife, Queen Naomi and her mother, Oge Okoye, Chizi Alidu, and a whole lot of celebrities. Luminee became very popular in Nigerian when she started designing for the beautiful actress Mercy Aigbe. Her designs were not left out at AVCA, as they came up for best designs for the Awards.
She made three outstanding outfits for A List stars such as Sola Shobowale, Mercy Aigbe and Aduni Ade, who emerged one of the top three best dress by AMVCA for the night, though lots of people were of the opinion that all Luminee’s outfits were candidates for best dress category at the Awards.
MAI ATAFO
He is a Nigeria bespoke fashion designers popularly known as Mai Atafo. He gained more prominence for his brand by enrolling the leads based Savile Row Academy to further train as a tailor.
He launched wedding by Mai in 2011 which he happens to be the creative director under this label, he makes wedding bridal and evening party dresses for women and suits for men. His brand Mai Atafo is among the top and successful fashion brands in Nigeria, and he has also been designing for top celebrities in Nigeria.
He was responsible for the beautiful musician Omawunmi outfits for AMVCA. He equally designed the outfits of the host Ike Osaoduwa and Ebuka for AMVCA 7. These celebrities were looking very handsome for the awards.
SOPHIE UGBEGUA
Sophie Ugbegua popular known as Somo is the brain behind the popular fashion house Somo by Somo. Somo is known for exquisite bridal dressers red carpet dresses, made to fit Nigerian aso-ebi styles and all other bespoke fashion services.
This beautiful, hardworking and young designer made breath taking outfits for lots of celebrities at the AMVCA 7. She always designs beautiful outfits for Sharon Orja, one of the most fashionable young actresses in the industry.
At the AMVCA Somo by Somo deisgned outfits for Sharon Orja, Bimbo Ademoye, Omowunmi Dada, Bisola Aiyeola, Mercy Junee Idia Aisien and lots at others.
MAIRAM AFOLABI
Mairam Afolabi is the creative director of Mazelle Studio and it is a two-part fashion house, featuring Mazelle RTW which provides ready to wear pieces for stylish men and women. Mazelle bridal a bridal outfit for the fashionable bride and they have designed for clients such as Omotola Jalade, Toyin Lawani, Idia Aisien, Bolanle Olukanmi, Yemi Alade, Falz amongst others. Their designs are usually unique and distinct and this is evident at the just concluded AMVCA they designed for Denola Grey, which was among the AMVCA Choosen best dressed at the award, but to many. He was the Best Dressed Male at the Awards.
They also designed for Indima Okojie, no doubt her dress was a masterpiece outfit, and also the yellow dress worn by Zainab Balogun was designed by Mazelle studio.
TOLU BALLY
Fashion designer and stylist Tolu Bally is no doubt one of the best in her generation with her brand 2207 by Tbally. 2207 is a brand for the everyday woman that wants to look beautiful, from the colour, the cuts, the sizes etc.
According to Tolu, they source their fabrics from the very best fabric merchants in the country and ensure that the products are well made, this explains why their designs are unique. At the just concluded AMVCA, she designed for footballer Joseph Yobo and his pretty wife Adaeze Yobo, the beautiful Stephanie Coker, fashion diva Toke Makinwa’s exceptionally two beautiful outfits, Racheal Okonkwo and fashion goddess Lilly Afegbai.
JEREMIAH OGBODO
Jeremiah Ogbodo better known as Swanky Jerry is a Nigeria celebrity fashion stylist known for his work with Tonto Dikeh, D’Banj, Juliet Ibrahim, Davido and a host of other high profile clients. He also at a point styled the past President Goodluck Jonathan for an event in Lagos. He is known as a hard worker, that strive and always achieve his aims and objectives in life. He styled BB 9ja winner Mercy Eke for the AMVCA, who eventually emerged Best Dressed for the Awards.
He also designed the outfit screen diva Dakore Egbuson wore for the award and the music legend Tuface Idibia’s,, outfit for his outstanding performance at the AMVCA 7.
BB9JA HOUSEMATE TACHA
BB9ja Housemate Tacha who was looking extremely gorgeous in her green outfit, Nollywood sweetheart Jemima Osunde, Damilare Kuku and Jenai Pherre’s outfits was designed by flat 17 studio.
Lastly, delectable Nollywood divas Sophie Alakija and Efe Irele’s beautiful outfits for the AMVCA 7 was designed by popular Lagos designer Sisi Nosa.
