On New Years day, Mr. Edward Akinlade, the GMD of Suru Group Ltd hosted a classy. New Year Thanksgiving Party at the Corporate Office of the company at 2, Sobo Arobiodu Street, Ikeja GRA (Besides Ghana High Commission) and Tope Alabi was on bandstand.
For 5 straight hours, this pretty lady of songs blessed with a mind blowing figure rendered close to 40 popular Christian songs to entertain guests. She sang so many soul-lifting songs that kept guests on their feet for the duration of the event. She had two breaks, of about 25 minutes each. The GMD and his 200 staff members of staff trooped out to dance to Tope Alabi’s praise and worship session. Also in attendance were customers and friends of Suru Group. Close to 500 quality guests attended the classy event.
The GMD also danced to her music. He is prayerful. He is a good Christian who usually supports the work of God in his own little way. He explained why he decided to host a yearly New Year party despite the inclement economic climate enveloping the country. “Many of you would be wondering why we are celebrating at a time like this, when the economy of the country is in bad shape”, he began. “We all know 2018 was a tough year. There are so many business people here today so they know what I am saying. But I can’t stop hosting our annual New Year Party. What I am doing today is a command from God that I should celebrate with my staff once a year. So, I have to obey him. I have no choice. God has been my strength, my pillar.
He has been with us through thick and thin. If you think of all what happened in 2018, how bad the economy was, you will just think of buying a ticket and travelling out. We pray 2019 will bring with it the change we all desire. Next year, is very important to us because 2020 has been the year that all our previous leaders have been talking about. They talked about Vision 2020. Abacha talked about 2020. IBB talked about 2020. Obasanjo did. Jonathan talked about 2020. Going by all they said things should improve by 2020. Lets wait and see.

After his speech, he announced David Emulor as the Suru Guru, Manager of the Year 2018. He is the Groups IT Manager. He was given a plaque of honour and a cash gift of N50,000. He was also offered a free weekend at any of Suru Groups chain of hotels.
The GMD praised David because of his effectiveness, efficiency and being economical in his handling of his duties. “This guy has done so well”, revealed Edward Akinlade. “He has been very efficient. He has been very effective on the job and economical in his handling of our resources. I wish I had him in our group years back. He has saved us millions. He has blocked wastages. He is good at what he does”

It has been more than a decade that Tope Alabi’s music career gained prominence in the contemporary Gospel music industry what makes her unique is her unmistaken voice, as well as her ability to create several melodies with traditional and modern beats.If 2017 was a very good year for her, because she performed back to back all through the year 2018 was fantastic. She has been the only gospel artist which dominated all major gospel concerts, parties and gatherings in 2018. Not only does she sing good songs,she has a way of captivating her audience and holding them spell bound till the end. She can perform non stop for over 4-hours and the audience will not get tired of her. She spends a lot of time sharing the word of God and ministering to them through her music.
She has performed in several countries, which include the US, United Kingdom, and Canada, she is one of the most sought after Gospel musicians in Nigeria today. She performs in more than half of Christian crusades and functions in the country. She has headlined many concerts. She has also set the stage on fire many praise concerts.
Tope Alabi has several Yoruba songs in Makossa, Salsa and hip-hop beats and all the albums were all hits. They have enjoyed massive airplays and they are evergreen songs that cannot go off the scene. Having over 10 albums to her credit, Tope Alabi’s song have also dominated the Nollywood industry as she has made soundtracks for many home videos.
The gospel artist started her career about 36 years ago during her secondary school days and because of her interest in music and drama, Tope Alabi joined the then “Jesters International” ( Jacob, Papilolo & Aderupoko) group at Ibadan, where she got her initial training and experience in drama and left for few years.she came back into the Theartre Art profession as she joined the prestigious “Alade Aromire Theartre Group” in 1994. Here, she was able to distinguish herself as a gifted and talented actress and singer. At Alade Aromire Theatre Group, Tope Alabi was exposed to all the core area of drama and acting profession. She was involved in various film productions, stage drama and most importantly the soundtrack production with which she was well known and considered as an authority in the Nigeria Yoruba Movie industry today. If there is anything Tope Alabi would be ever grateful for while with the Alade Aromire Threatre Group, it’s her exposure to and subsequent domination of the Yoruba Movie soundtrack production. Tope Alabi has been invited by various writers, producers and directors in the Yoruba movie industry to write and perform sound tracks for their various movies, she had to her credit to date, over 350 soundtracks which she had composed for various Yoruba movies. It would be of note to state here that Tope Alabi is the pacesetter of soundtracks in the Yoruba Home Video industry.
Her biography is not complete without mentioning the fact that she is the only girl among 3 children born to a family of 5. Tope Alabi was born on October 27, 1970 and later worked with other popular travelling and stage theater groups in both Ibadan and Lagos after joining the jester group. She made films in the Yoruba film genre of Nigeria top. Alabi later metamorphosed into gospel music after she became a born-again Christian.
Her parents are Pa Joseph Akinyele Obayomi and Madam Agnes Kehinde Obayomi. She hails from Yewa, Imeko of Ogun State. She obtained her West Africa School Certificate (WAEC) at Oba Akinyele Memorial High School, Bashorun Anlugbua, Ibadan in the year 1986. Thereafter, she proceeded to The Polythecnic, Ibadan where she studied Mass Communication and graduated in 1990. Tope Alabi pursued her educational attainment with all seriousness and dedication it deserves because her parents were disciplinarians of the highest order. . She worked briefly with the NTA Ibadan as a Correspondent under the supervision of Mr. Yanju Adegbite. She also worked at NTA Channel 7 Tejuosho (Now NTA Channel 10, Lagos) between 1990 & 1991. She worked with Centrespread Advertising Limited, at Ilupeju area of Lagos and worked with this company within the year 1991 – 1992; she has worked with Re-Union Nigeria Limited, Gbagada, Lagos.
She is married to Soji Alabi, her husband of many years who doubles as her manager and they are blessed with adorable children.
