Have you watched the Queen of Gospel Music, Tope Alabi perform live at Concerts before? Have you seen her deliver her lines and thrill at events? Last year was her year. She played back to back, from January-December, 2017, performing at concerts, crusades and ministrations. That didn’t surprise too many people. She is good at what she does. She has even gotten better. She has perfected her art.

She has a great sense of presence.  She has a strong and sonorous voice. And beyond that a powerful delivery that leaves you shaken to your roots. When she mounts any stage the whole venue trembles under her feet. She is very impactful in her delivery. It hits you like a big blow. She usually starts slowly by ministering the word and by the time she is fully charged, she goes all out delivering the word of God, lacing it with soul lifting songs that lift you off your seat unto your feet to praise God. So powerful was Tope Alabi last  year that she got invited to practically all the major shows in Lagos and  across the country. She suddenly became the poster girl of many churches.

That was why City People crowned her in 2016 as the Queen of Gospel music at a music concert in Lagos.

One of the reasons why Tope has been able to hit it big in the music industry is her sonorous voice, stage craft, the lyrics of her songs and her compositions. She has remained unarguably the biggest female gospel act in Nigeria. With a voice like a nightingale, Tope has wowed fans home and abroad with her deep spiritual songs. You can’t deny the married mum of two is as beautiful as her voice. She doesn’t need to do too much. Her inner beauty radiates wherever she goes.

It has been more than a decade that Tope Alabi’s music career gained prominence in the contemporary Gospel music industry in Nigeria, what makes her unique is her voice as well as her ability to create several melodies with different traditional and modern beats.2017 has been a very good year for her as she performed back to back all through the year. She has been the only gospel artist who dominated all major gospel concerts, parties and gatherings in 2017. Not only does she sing good songs, she has a way of captivating her audience and holding them spell bound. She can perform non stop for over 4 hours and the audience will not get tired of her. She spends a lot of time sharing the word of God and ministering to them through her music.

Tope has performed in several countries of the world which include United states, United Kingdom , and Canada, she is one of the most sought after Gospel musicians in Nigeria today. She performs in more than half of Christian crusades and functions in the country. Some of the many major concerts she has headlined in 2017 were COZA praise concert and thanksgiving in Abuja, she also set the stage on fire at the recent Praise Blast hosted by Hi-Impact Planet. She had an amazing performance at Chief Ebenezer Obey’s 75th birthday in Abeokuta, She held the entire redemption camp spell bound at the Redeemed annual Holyghost Service and as well as pastor Adeboye’s iconic birthday in 7 major countries and 6 continents tagged 75 hours of praise, Major gospel concerts in Lagos, The Experience and The Invasion 2017. WAFBEC 2017, Praise The Almighty Concert, Next Level Concert 7th edition, and at Mothers day concert in London. She was also a delight at many parties such as weddings,birthdays,even funerals.

Tope Alabi has several Yoruba songs in Makossa, Salsa and hip hop beats and all the albums were all hits. They have enjoyed massive airplays and they are evergreen songs that can never go off the scene.Having over 10 albums to her credit, Tope’s songs have also dominated the Nollywood industry as she has made soundtracks for many home videos.The gospel artist started her life as a singer 36 years ago during her secondary school days and because of her interest in music and drama, Tope Alabi joined the then “Jesters International” ( Jacob, Papilolo & Aderupoko) group at Ibadan, where she got her initial training and experience in drama and left for few years.She came back into the Theartre Art profession as she joined the prestigious “Alade Aromire Theartre Group” in 1994. Here, she was able to distinguish herself as a gifted and talented actress and singer. At Alade Aromire Theatre Group, Tope Alabi was exposed to all the core areas of drama and acting profession. She was involved in various film productions, stage drama and most importantly the soundtrack production with which she was well known and considered as an authority in the Nigeria Yoruba Movie industry today. If there is anything Tope Alabi would be ever grateful for while with the Alade Aromire Threatre Group, it’s her exposure to and subsequent domination of the Yoruba Movie soundtrack production. Tope Alabi has been invited by various writers, producers and directors in the Yoruba movie industry to write and perform sound tracks for their various movies, she has to her credit to date, over 350 soundtracks which she had composed for various Yoruba movies. It would be of note to state here that Tope Alabi is the pacesetter of soundtracks in the Yoruba Home Video Industry.

Her biography is not complete without mentioning the fact that she is the only girl among 3 children born to a family of 5. Tope Alabi was born on October 27, 1970. She later worked with other popular travelling and stage theater groups in both Ibadan and Lagos after joining the jester group.She made films in the Yoruba film genre of Nigeria.Alabi later metamorphosed into gospel music after she became a born-again Christian.

Her parents are Pa Joseph Akinyele Obayomi and Madam Agnes Kehinde Obayomi. She hails from Yewa, Imeko of Ogun State. She obtained her West Africa School Certificate (WAEC) at Oba Akinyele Memorial High School, Bashorun Anlugbua, Ibadan in the year 1986. Thereafter, she proceeded to The Polythecnic , Ibadan where she studied Mass Communication and graduated in the year 1990. Tope Alabi pursued her educational attainment with all seriousness and dedication it deserves because her parents were disciplinarians of the highest order. . She worked briefly with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Ibadan as a correspondent under the supervision of Mr. Yanju Adegbite. She also worked at NTA Channel 7 Tejuosho (Now NTA Channel 10, Lagos) between 1990 & 1991. She worked with Centrespread Advertising Limited, at Ilupeju area of Lagos and worked with this Company within the year 1991 – 1992; she has worked with Re-Union Nigeria Limited, Gbagada, Lagos.

The beautiful singer  has in her kitty many awards and was honored with the Proclamation Award for her dedication to the betterment of her community by the New York State Senate, NYC, USA on Sunday, October 09, 2016.

The song,”Aye le” released in 2014 was featured as the background song for a large number of skits almost every year and If you are wondering why, the song basically just talks about how the world we live in today is a tough one and how she is disillusioned by recent happenings.Amongst her many hit albums are Angeli mi,orw ti o common, Iwe eri, Oruko tuntun, Mori yanu,Agbara re ni,Agbara Olorun,Kokoro Igbala,Agbelebu, and many others. She is married to her husband of many years Soji Alabi who doubles as her manager, and they blessed with adorable children.
