Toyin Abraham vows to keep political choices private after social media backlash

Nollywood star Toyin Abraham has decided to keep her political affiliations private after a recent social media exchange on X. The actress shared that she has learned valuable lessons about public political endorsements after her involvement in the 2023 general election campaign.

During the 2023 campaign, Toyin Abraham was vocal about her support for Tinubu, sharing photos of her meeting with the then-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. In her caption, she wrote, “For the first time, I met the incoming president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and he shared some of his ideas, visions, and strategies to solve the challenges before us as a nation. Listening to him renewed my hope and reaffirmed why he is my choice.”

The exchange began when an X user, Otunba (@ManLikeIcey), queried, “Maybe one day Toyin Abraham will divulge the plans Bola Tinubu shared with her to the public. I strongly believe we deserve to hear. Thank you @toyin_abraham1.”
Responding, Toyin Abraham disclosed that she had been promised “good governance and happiness for everyone” by President Bola Tinubu’s camp during the campaign.

However, Toyin Abraham also voiced her frustration at being blamed if the promised outcomes do not come to fruition. “If things didn’t go well why do I have to be the one to suffer for it? I remember I voted for (ex-president) Jonathan and I was bullied, but I didn’t put blame on anyone after everyone chose (ex-president) Buhari. So please, why would they be cursing and trolling me every time?” she said

Otunba followed up with another question, “Do you believe he has failed at the moment in governance or not?”

Toyin Abraham replied stating, “I have faced my life and career because I am not a politician and I’m not in government. I have learned my lesson never ever to be open with my choice again.”
