You must have seen his posters and billboards all over Lagos. You must have noticed the photos of High Chief Owolabi Salis. Who is this Lagos politician who wishes to be the next governor of Lagos? We can tell you. High Chief Owolabi Salis, a highly skilled individual and a researcher. He is a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Banker, a Series 6 and 63 USA Financial Institutions Regulatory Agency, (FINRA) holder, a Management Consultant, a researcher in public administration, democracy and diversityissues, a human rights a cultural leader and a Nigerian lawyer and member of the New York Juris Doctor Bar, which is rated the most dynamic legal bar in the world. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University and University of Lagos. He was honored a distinguished alumnus of the University of Lagos during the 50th anniversary of the university. He is highly exposed to the world events and has traveled to more than half of the 195 countries in the world. He knows fully well the situations in mega cities of the world.
He is a sustainable member (less than 1%) of the New York bar and featured as a top attorney (VIP) in the United States. Besides, he was also among the top 11 students in Nigeria Law School in addition to being a distinguished guest speaker of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAN) Accountants Conference in 1995 during the 30th anniversary of ICAN. He implemented the Value Added Tax (VAT) training for ICAN throughout Nigeria when VAT was introduced in the 1990s.
He was awarded Lagos State Police Command Peace Award, 2007 as the Best Governorship Candidate for Peace.
In 2002, he was honoured by the Head of Federal Civil Service, Mahmud Yayale, for Patriotic and Selfless Service to Nigeria after sponsoring and organizing a powerful workshop titled World Wide Information Paging for directors in the civil service then. Owolabi Salis also has social recognition as the Patron of the Nigerian Boys Scout, and Patron of the Kegites Club of the University of Lagos. He belongs. He is also honored as Oba Mekunnu by Lions Club and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Yoruba program.
On human rights and philanthropic activities, in 2003, he formed Niger Delta Peoples Development (NDPD) in New York, USA to fight the cause of Niger Delta people in USA. He is a major sponsor of the annual Martin Luther King Math Competition in New York and supporter of mothers happiness as sponsor and organizer of annual Mother’s Day events. He is well known for fighting for the less privileged of all races in the US and was once challenged by the government in court and he won. Back home in 2007, he formed a weekly radio program, Eto Ilu to rescue the less privileged peoples of all nationalities including Hausas, Igbos, Yorubas, Ijaws, Ibibios and others from oppression. He is a member of Amnesty International and American Civil Liberties Union among others.
Concerned about the level of poverty in Nigeria, he formed and sponsored a totally free Lagos Youth Skills Empowerment Program with 38 centers throughout Lagos.
